Job Description

As Pittsburghs largest nonprofit developer ACTIONHousing exists to help people improve their lives by offering quality affordable housing. We pride ourselves on helping all of our clients to achieve more selfsufficient lives. Since 1957 weve assisted a wide array of populations throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania focusing on those generally underserved by traditional services including senior citizens veterans individuals with physical and/or intellectual disabilities individuals on the autism spectrum and youths who have aged out of foster care.

To further our mission we are looking for a Human Resources Generalist.

Position Overview:

The HR Generalist is responsible for a variety of tasks to support the daily operations of the HR department. The HR Generalist acts as a key point of contact for employees providing guidance on HR inquiries and fostering a positive work environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain talent acquisition functions through Paycor Recruiting which includes the maintenance of job postings screening/phone interviews and disseminating qualified applicants to hiring managers
  • Cultivate relationships with employees community partners universities and trade schools to attract and retain talent
  • Maintain and verify employee paperwork including offer letters I9 benefit elections clearances MVRs and education
  • Serve as the main point of contact for all employee benefit inquiries
  • Coordinate and conduct new hire orientation
  • Identify coordinate track and evaluate employee training needs
  • Participate in career fairs and work force development initiatives
  • Serve as a backup for processing payroll
  • Assist with coordinating staff events
  • Assist the Director of HR with employee relations ADA accommodations workplace investigations workers compensation and unemployment compensation
  • Coordinate all aspects of the annual open enrollment process
  • Assist with compiling the annual EEO1 survey data

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Business Administration Human Resources or related field preferred. High school diploma required
  • At least two years of related experience required
  • Strong verbal and written communication for effective interactions with employees and management
  • Ability to convey policies procedures and updates clearly
  • Empathy active listening and conflict resolution to handle employee concerns
  • Efficient multitasking time management and prioritization to manage multiple HR functions
  • Analytical thinking to address employee issues performance concerns or policy violations
  • Sound judgment for resolving disputes hiring decisions or policy adjustments
  • Maintaining privacy and handling sensitive employee information responsibly
