Job Description
Job Summary
Health Sciences Strategy is a dynamic work environment in which team members contribute to an array of projects aimed at achieving core health sciences missions. The data engineering intern supports pieces of our work that involve clinical analytics (e.g. patient segmentation episode prediction and health outcome analytics) financial analytics (e.g. pro forma financial statements and comparative costbenefit analyses) business analytics (e.g. market assessments and comparative service line evaluations) and the effective blending thereof to inform craft and monitor health system strategy. Daytoday tasks include assisting analysts and engagement managers in gathering data necessary for their projects in a timely and efficient manner and assisting the lead data engineer in improving data quality and optimizing data pipelines. Candidates should be familiar with R/Python SQL and GIT . Candidates should be able to advance multiple projects concurrently and adhere to deadlines. Good communication skills including the ability to explain methods and share findings are also important. The intern reports to the Associate Director of Data & Analytics. This internship has an end date of 08/15/2024.
Responsibilities
Completion of data projects related to the work of Health Sciences Strategy. The following is representative of work performed by analytics interns but is not allinclusive: Compile and clean data from disparate sources (database APIs web sing flat files) to aid Strategy team members with their projects and engagements. Assist in optimizing and automating data pipelines and creating new pipelines. Create automated processes to audit data quality and discover anomalies within the data Utilize GIT repository to store production code Undertake other responsibilities as needed to support development and implementation of health system strategy. Problem Solving Incumbents in this position are expected to be familiar with the departments policies and procedures and have working knowledge of University and department organizations and procedures in order to answer and assist staff and visitors. Incumbents are also expected to demonstrate sensitivity to others needs while being understanding and helpful on the job. Working Conditions and Physical Demands Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation: This is a sedentary position that may exert up to 20 pounds and may lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects. This position involves sitting or standing most of the time and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Physical Requirements : Listening speaking sitting standing and walking. Minimum Qualifications
Associates degree in a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Two years of related experience ability to use logic and reasoning to prioritize tasks expertise using MS Office software and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required. Database experience preferred. Bachelors degree in a related field may be preferred. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
