The mission of Cornell Engineerings Office of Inclusive Excellence is to further Cornell Universitys foundational principle of any person any study within the College of Engineering by providing a welcoming caring and stimulating environment for our community of scholars to thrive with a focus on faculty and students from historically underrepresented marginalized or underserved groups in engineering. Through strategically tailored programming robust support services and close partnerships with other College and University units we facilitate students access to engagement with and effective use of the skills resources opportunities and connections critical for ongoing achievement.

What You Will Do

In this role the incumbent will:

Scope Of the Role

Reporting to the Cornell Engineerings Senior Associate Director of the Office of Inclusive Excellence the Assistant Director supports the unit in developing and advancing diversity equity inclusion and belonging programs and/or initiatives. This includes supporting activities to advance the recruitment retention and graduation of students from demographic backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in STEM. This position has a primary focus on advising and mentoring support for undergraduate students.

The overarching goal for this position is to positively impact and enhance access to Cornell Engineering as well as the engineering student experience. The incumbent will be a highly organized proactive and forwardthinking professional who will help design implement deliver evaluate and market academic success programming to achieve goals and strategically develop and grow innovative initiatives and services in accordance with organizational goals and expansions. They will be big picture focused as well as keenly attuned to details related to successful outcomes and innovative solutions.

While modeling inclusive excellence they will interact and work collaboratively with engineering partners across the college and the university including student services admissions advising faculty and dozens of other internal and external partners advancing student access and success developing a multitude of robust student development partnerships. As an intrinsically motivated leader they will be flexible and able to work in a dynamic environment as well as a selfstarter who can receive direction as well as manage up.

The incumbent will serve as resource and support in various efforts to create a safe and inclusive space for all members of the community. They will identify and implement activities that assist in creating an environment of inclusion respect and trust. They will be a visible and respected member of the Cornell community as a resource and support for historically marginalized students; participate in college and/or university efforts to assess the academic and personal success of multicultural students on campus.

The incumbent will participate in developing and providing programmatic consultative and an analytical approach to contribute to all office programs and events but will focus on the following initiatives in establishing goals objectives and assessment criteria analyzing effectiveness recommending enhancements and/or new programing and reporting on program achievements:

The Bridges Scholars Program: Through partnerships with high schools and communitybased organizations the Bridges Scholars Program represents a unique pathway for students who demonstrate a deep interest in engineering as well as the requisite knowledge skills attributes and academic record to be successful Cornell Engineering majors.

Engineering Summer Math Institute (ESMI) is a 9week summer program in which rising sophomores and juniors in engineering take Math 1920 (Multivariable Calculus) 2930 (Differential Equations) or 2940 (Linear Algebra). Students receive academic support for math courses and participate in an applied math research project.

Cornell University Engineering Mentoring Partnerships (CU EMpower) is a peer mentor program with the primary goal to support the personal and academic development and achievement of students in the College of Engineering. New students in the college are partnered with upperclassmen or graduate student peer mentors.
