Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Director of Student Success is responsible for bringing leadership vision oversight and supervision to the Center for Student Success team for the three Richmond Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The Director will set a unit plan for the CSS effectively communicate the plan and lead a team of student success and mental health professionals in executing the strategy. This role will develop implement and direct processes that support industry best practices related to strategic retention efforts for advising academic counseling accessibility and testing other auxiliary support services and student wellness across the HEIs. This role actively engages and supports the student success team in implementing unitwide goals developing measurable and meaningful professional goals building a culture of service and pride within their team and in supporting the mission vision and strategic direction of the three schools.

Essential Job Functions

Provide leadership and operational management for all aspects of academic advising academic and mental health support for the three HEIs. Serve as a visible resource in helping the college communities understand student support as a tool in helping to meet retention graduation and diversity goals.

  • Develop and assess the procedures protocols and strategies for student support for the RHEIs. Facilitate changes as necessary to maintain continuous quality and to ensure best practices are being implemented documented adjusted and evaluated on ongoing analysis. Manage data related to continuous improvement and accreditation standards.

  • Foster a strategic approach to student retention efforts through providing programming resources and services that reflect diverse student needs and studentcentered support for all programs of the RHEI.

  • Collaborate with other departments/divisions to carry out the philosophy of studentcentered institution/s with an integrated support environment.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to collaborative and constructive leadership and an enthusiastic demeanor for the development of professional staff and students. Serve as a campus community professional role model to staff and students.

  • Educate faculty and staff regarding best practices for identifying and supporting students who are atrisk/struggling academically and provide studentcentered solutions which promotes student success retention and completion.

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of student development theory and practice in retention and student success including learning support services student orientation tutoring and supplemental instruction academic advising and coaching student success programming atrisk support mental health and accommodation compliance.

  • Manage student needs by proactively flexing staff schedules appointment availability short and longterm coverage assessing staff utilization rates and student outreach initiatives.

  • Maintain RHEI responsibility for disability accommodations and accessibility by managing the Assistant Director who executes the accommodations process for all students across HEIs. Serve as a point of escalation for complex issues. Collaborate with faculty and staff regarding accommodations and compliance with legal responsibilities. Ensure faculty receive regular training related to accessibility and accommodations.

  • Develop implement monitor and revise policies and procedures relating to academic advising student support and disability access and accommodations.

  • Provide direction and oversight for auxiliary support services like student wellness/mental health and academic support programs.

  • Integrate campus advising technology into current processes and adjust processes as needed to better fit current technology and advising standards.

  • Participate as a committed team member of the RHEI Division of Student Affairs and Deans Leadership Team

  • Manage flow of student issues and concerns; provide direct advisement services to students as needed. Maintain advising load as needed to support appropriate advising load distribution.

Masters Education Counseling Student Development or Related Degree (required)

Post Graduate Degree (preferred)

Work Experience

Minimum 5 years recent experience with collegiate advising preferred; or current leadership experience with college advising student success and best practices related to student progression and retention.
