During your summer programme you will experience abroad range of diverse tasks work on real projects and gain invaluable experience within the fusion energy sector. Overview

Project Title: Microstructural characterisation of advanced BRAFM steels for fusion


BRAFM steels are being investigated by UKAEA as a means to enhance the higher temperature operability of fusion structural components. This summer placement will provide valuable insights into the mechanisms strengthening BRAFM steels by studying creeptested BRAFM with and without boron addition. Understanding the interplay of time load and temperature on these steels and how the microstructure is evolving over time is crucial to optimising these materials. The successful summer placement will utilise advanced microscopy at the MRF to evaluate creep tested BRAFM steels.
