Stanford Health Care is home to one of the largest and most successful transplant programs in the country performing 450500 heart lung liver kidney and pancreas transplants annually. The Director of Business Operations for Solid Organ Transplant will play a key role in supporting these critical programs. This position is part of the leadership team working closely with passionate staff and physicians who are committed to transforming patients lives through organ transplantation. The director will manage everything from financial performance and contract management to budget oversight and reimbursement strategies. The team is large and diverse spanning four transplant programs. This role requires strong collaboration with various departments across the organization including finance managed care revenue integrity and contract administration. The leadership team is highly engaged works closely together and supports each other to drive excellence in patient care. The work environment is one of passion and commitment with a focus on delivering the best possible outcomes for patients. The Director will have 45 direct reports and 5 indirect reports overseeing a dynamic group of professionals who contribute to the success of the transplant service line. Communication is essential and this team works together seamlessly to achieve shared goals.

In this role the Director of Business Operations will serve as a key member of the leadership team providing guidance and operational support across all four transplant programs. Responsibilities include managing contract administration monitoring the financial performance of the service line and ensuring compliance with transplant reimbursement policies. The director will oversee a team of charge coordinators and transplant financial coordinators while also managing the operational budgets for the transplant service line. Additionally the director will act as the subject matter expert for Medicare cost reports related to transplant reimbursement and collaborate with multiple departments to streamline operational processes.

This is a hybrid position with 23 days in the office and the rest of the time working from home. Its a Monday through Friday role with no weekend work required though there will be occasional oncall duties as the administrator on call for evenings and weekends without the need for inperson reporting.

A Brief Overview
The Director Business Operations Solid Organ Transplant is responsible for directing leading and executing the financial strategy set forth by the executive leadership. This position will collaborate closely with the Vice President Solid Organ Transplant to recognize financial opportunities and serve as a strategic thought partner to the transplant leadership both SHC and SOM. Additional responsibilities will include financial management budgeting contract management human resource planning purchasing workflows process management management of departmentwide projects and leadership and oversight for the team of transplant financial and charge coordinators. This individual will serve as the content matter expert in transplant related Medicare cost report reimbursement. This role involves close collaboration with the Managed Care Department related to transplant contracting and financial authorization for transplant services.The position has significant strategic finance and operational aspects to it. This leader will represent the Solid Organ Transplant DSL in crossfunctional interactions related to strategy business development productivity metrics and performance improvement objectives. In collaboration with Finance and Decision Support the Director Business Operations Solid Organ Transplant is responsible for formulating and managing capital and operating budget consolidation financial reporting forecasting business plans and implementation of financial and operational controls. The incumbent is a senior member of the leadership team and will be required to provide strategic insights in addition to the operational responsibilities.

What you will do
  • Establishes financial business and operating structures for the Solid Organ Transplant business unit to align with the organizations goals. Provides the direction method tools and training to record measure and track the financial and operating performance of the organization.
  • Working in unison with Finance creates communicates and implements the annual budgeting process. Educates (trains) clinical leaders about the process and ensures the process is executed within the parameters defined. Provides ongoing oversight of the operations within the final budget.
  • Establishes structures to monitor variances and track financial trends including revenue and labor expenses. Provides ad hoc reporting for senior management related to volume cost performance and profitability. Initiates operational controls/procedures to ensure tracking collecting & recovering revenue are in place.
  • Supervises the development and production of standard reports that provide senior management with information on financial results and trends by department and segments. Provides impact and feasibility analysis for business planning and program initiatives.
  • Provides strategic input to space plan governance document and manages the complete inventory of existing space and space assignment.
  • Facilitates cooperation with other entity/department leadership to achieve standardize integrated and/or consolidated financial planning budgeting patient accounting budget management patient accounting and contracting.
  • Recommends improvements in systems and processes that enhance efficiency and reduce cost within the business unit and throughout the organization. Provides direction and support for cost reduction activities working closely with nurses physicians patient care and technical staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in business administration management healthcare administration finance or a related field from an accredited college or university (Masters degree preferred)

Experience Qualifications
  • Eight 8 or more years of financial management experience preferably in a hospital or healthcare system setting

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated competency in finance and decision support
  • Demonstrated skills in analytical assessment oral and written communication
  • Expert skills with PC base applications (Excel Access Powerpoint)
  • Conversant in financial & operation systems (e.g. Lawson IDX SMS GL cost accounting executive management etc.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to promote and maintain interpersonal relationships

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $86.41 $114.50 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity experience education specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
