Job Description

Position Summary:Provide direct health services to individual students and staff.

Qualifications certification and Experience

  • Current license as a registered nurse (RN) from the Iowa Board of Nursing
  • Bachelors degreein Nursing preferred
  • Knowledge of professional standards the Nurse Practice Act and other statutes and regulations
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Completed studies designed to develop knowledge and skills in the following areas:
    • health concerns of school youth
    • physical and emotional health of children and adults
    • community agencies/resources
    • legal rights and due process
  • Ability to manage the components of the School Health Program

Personal Performance Criteria

  • Works well with others maintaining positive and effective communication with school personnel and students
  • Contributes to creating a positive work environment
  • Demonstrates integrity and respects confidentiality
  • Arrives on time and works consistently until the end of his/her scheduled day
  • Takes advantage of professional growth opportunities related to his/her specific job
  • Works independently and with confidence
  • Demonstrates ability to adjust to new and changing situations
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Professional Performance Criteria

  • Manages School Health services
  • Implements the Nursing Process and Standards of School Nursing Practice (NASN 2005
  • Maintains accurate health records on all students
  • Promotes optimal environmental health

Terms of Employment:Substitutes are called and used on an as needed basis with no guarantee of hours or days.
