General Overview:

Teachers act as the primary care givers of the children assigned to them. They are responsible for the design implementation and evaluation of educationally enriched programs which are appropriate to the developmental needs of the children they serve. Teachers help children explore their interests develop their talents and independence build selfesteem and learn how to get along with others. Teachers must be enthusiastic and constantly alert.

Responsibilities:

Design implement and evaluate curriculum which promotes the educational socialemotional and physical development of children with whom they work. Curriculum development should: 1 follow the NAEYC Guidelines 2 be based on the knowledge that children mainly learn through play and 3 provide numerous & varied opportunities for children to learn through play.

Uphold the written Regulations for Group Day Care from the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).

Uphold the written personnel policies of the Partners Child Care Services and Partners Healthcare System.

Responsible for classroom management and organization.

Become familiar with and able to implement all policies regarding health safety and record keeping.

Maintain and assure that childrens records are objective accurate updated and remain confidential.

Act as a resource for families regarding child development issues. Teachers will participate in informal meetings and scheduled conferences to discuss each childs progress and needs.

Complete Developmental Checklists on children as needed following EEC regulations. Keep records of each childs progress through anecdotal records and journals.

Train and supervise assistant teachers teacher aides students and volunteers. Observe and evaluate their performance and provide ongoing feedback.

Collaborate with the team to: identify current and future goals of the Center; establish achieve and evaluate program goals; assure that there is consistency in philosophy curriculum and classroom management.

Substitute at the Partners based child care centers as needed.

Attend staff meetings and be present on the 2 annual inservice days.

Maintain professionalism in appearance and in written and verbal communication with parents staff and the community.

Support Partners Child Care Programs.

Advise the Coordinator of equipment needs. Assure all equipment and supplies are replenished safe and in good working order.

Assume responsibility for own professional development; identify learning needs and develop plan to enhance professional development; maintain own training requirements 20 hours per year).

Support Educational initiatives.

Bachelors degree preferred.

Department of Early Education and Care Teacher Qualified.

Maintain current CPR and First Aid Certification.

All Partners Child Care Services (PCCS) centers are licensed by the State of Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC). All PCCS staff members must meet the staff qualification requirements as set forth by EEC.

The MGH Childrens Center and IHP Childrens Quarters are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The BWH Backup Center and MGH Backup Center operate by the standards and guidelines set forth by NAEYC. In all PCCS centers where staff members do not yet meet the qualifications as outlined by NAEYC staff members are expected to commit to ongoing professional development and education in pursuit of meeting the NAEYC staff qualifications. Each Site Director will work with each staff member to review their qualifications and to develop a personalized professional development plan that will support the pursuit of NAEYC staff qualifications.

Skills Abilities Competencies:

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Decision Making and Problem Solving Must be able to take action in solving problems while exhibiting judgment and realistic understanding of issues; able to use reason even when dealing with emotional topics; be able to review facts and weigh options.
Teamwork Must be able to share due credit with coworkers; display enthusiasm and promote a friendly group working environment; work closely with other departments/programs as necessary; support group decisions and solicit opinions from coworkers; display team spirit.
Flexibility Must be able to remain openminded and able to change opinion on the basis of new information; perform a wide variety of tasks and change focus quickly as demands change; manage transitions effectively from task to task; adapt to varying child and family needs. Ability to work indoors and outdoors w/varying weather conditions ranging from hot to cold.
Interpersonal Ability Must be able to develop rapport with others and recognize their concerns and feelings; build and maintain longterm associations based on trust; help others.
