Job Description

Overview
The ICU Technician plays a vital role in the critical care unit of a hospital providing essential support to medical staff and ensuring the safety and comfort of patients. This role involves the direct monitoring of patients vital signs assisting in medical procedures and operating specialized equipment. ICU Technicians work alongside nurses and physicians to facilitate patient care in highpressure situations making their expertise crucial in promoting the best possible health outcomes. Given the delicate nature of patients in intensive care attention to detail competency in technical skills and strong communication are essential qualities for someone in this position. The contributions made by ICU Technicians directly impact the efficiency of the healthcare team and the overall functionality of the Intensive Care Unit thus highlighting the importance of their work in saving lives and improving patient recovery.
Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor patients vital signs continuously.
  • Assist in the management and care of critically ill patients.
  • Operate ICU equipment such as ventilators and monitors.
  • Prepare and maintain records of patients medical history and treatment.
  • Collect and analyze medical data as directed by medical staff.
  • Ensure all medical equipment is maintained and functioning properly.
  • Assist with patient transportation within the facility.
  • Support nurses in administering medications and treatments.
  • Prepare equipment and materials for medical procedures.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and assist in lifesaving procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in the ICU environment.
  • Educate patients and families about the use of medical equipment.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient care.
  • Document patient interactions and treatment updates accurately.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; further education in healthcare is preferred.
  • Certification as an ICU Technician or equivalent training.
  • Experience in a hospital or clinical environment preferably within an ICU.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and patient care procedures.
  • Strong technical skills in operating medical equipment.
  • Ability to work under pressure in highstress situations.
  • Familiarity with infection control protocols and hospital regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Strong observational skills to track changes in patient conditions.
  • Basic life support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
  • Strong ethical commitment to patient confidentiality.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift and move patients.
  • Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
