Description

The Team
As a Probation Officer you will be part of a dedicated and collaborative team committed to supporting safer communities through effective community supervision. Whether working alongside colleagues in an office or remotely you will contribute to a respectful and inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives and experiences. Reporting to the Local Manager you will have the support and guidance needed to navigate complex cases while upholding the principles of fairness equity and accountability in your role as an officer of the court.

The Role
As a Probation Officer you will play a key role in supporting adult clients under community supervision by assessing their risks and needs creating case management plans and providing guidance to help them make positive changes. You will work closely with the Court and other decisionmakers to recommend fair and appropriate outcomes while applying evidencebased principles that support rehabilitation. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • A bachelors degree from a Canadian designated educational institution; OR
  • Completion of a twoyear diploma and 3 years of fulltime related experience (or equivalent) working with people with complex social health or legal needs; OR
  • Sixty 60 credits of postsecondary education towards a diploma and 3 years of fulltime related experience (or equivalent) working with people with complex social health or legal needs.

Note:If postsecondary education was obtained outside of Canada you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services. You must provide a Comprehensive Report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
If postsecondary education was instructed in a language other than English applicants are required to provide proof of English language proficiency. More details on this can be found in the attached Job Profile.

  • Successful completion of the Adult Probation Officer prerequisite course (CORR1000. Exemptions can be found in the Job Profile.
  • A valid Class 5 B.C. drivers license without restrictions or an equivalent Canadian drivers license is required. A valid BC Class 7 may be considered.


Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • A minimum of 6 months experience working with people with complex social health or legal needs.


Proviso / Willingness Statement:

  • Willing to work with adult clients who may have multiple legal health social and/or mental health challenges and/or clients who have committed or alleged to have committed criminal acts including intimate partner violence or sexually motivated offences.
  • Successful applicants will be required to submit to a drivers abstract review for the last fiveyear period.
  • Successful applicants will be required to participate in and successfully complete the positions training requirements.
  • Parttime employees may require adjustments to hours of work while on basic training.
  • Overnight travel to remote locations and working outside typical work hours may be required.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to one 1 day at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

A Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) and Enhanced Security Screening will be required.
