Description

The Team
This position will sit with a newly formed team who specializes in providing support to caregivers including foster parents contracted agencies and out of care caregivers. This is a team of dedicated professionals who works closely with our indigenous partners local community services and other Ministry program areas to support caregivers in providing safe and nurturing homes to children and youth. This team works collaboratively with other teams within the office including; child protection collaborative practice administrative teams and youth justice to help ensure the safety and well-being of children and youth in our community. The Role
This is a new role for our teams in Terrace. In this role you will work closely with the child protection teams to maintain and support familial connection. Responsibilities will include planning and coordinating family visits and activities while ensure safety of all those involved. You will be encouraged to build strong relationships with community partners to assist children youth and families in meeting their goals. This will include preparing monthly reports based on your work and observations with families. You will participate in collaborative team meetings to assist with planning for families. This fast-paced position offers a variety of tasks and opportunities to learn new skills making it an exciting and dynamic role. Youll make a meaningful difference in the community while working as part of a dedicated team. Additionally this position services as a stepping stone providing a pathway for career advancement in social work.

Job Requirements:

  • Secondary School Graduation or Equivalent AND one of the following:
    • 2 years of post-secondary studies towards a degree diploma or certificate in a related human services field or equivalent discipline (Human Services fields or equivalent include Social Work Child & Youth Care Psychology Sociology Criminology Anthropology Early Childhood Education Indigenous Studies Education Theology and Nursing) PLUS a minimum of 1 year or more of related** work experience; OR
    • 1 year of post-secondary studies towards a degree diploma or certificate in a related human services field or equivalent discipline (Human Services fields or equivalent include Social Work Child & Youth Care Psychology Sociology Criminology Anthropology Early Childhood Education Indigenous Studies Education Theology and Nursing) PLUS a minimum of 2 years or more of related** work experience; OR
    • Minimum of 3 years or more of related** work experience; OR
    • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Drivers License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).


Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Experience using the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) Integrated Case Management (ICM) and/or Management Information Systems (MIS) computer systems.
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations Mtis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

About this Position:
There are currently two (2) permanent positions available in Terrace location.
Flexible work options are available this position may be able to work up to two days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.
