Faculty Position Vacancy

Founded in 1852 Wartburg College is a selective fouryear liberal arts college of the Lutheran Church (ELCA) nationally recognized for community engagement. The college offers more than 50 academic majors and preprofessional and certificate programs leading to the bachelors degree. The college is located in Waverly Iowa a growing community of more than 10000 residents. As part of the Cedar Valley metro area (near Waterloo and Cedar Falls) Waverly has an abundance of cultural musical and recreational opportunities. Major Midwest metropolitan areas within driving distance include Des Moines Iowa 2.5 hours); Minneapolis/St. Paul Minn. 3 hours); Madison Wis. 3.5 hours); Rochester Minn. 2 hours); Chicago 5 hours); and Omaha Neb. 4 hours).

POSITION: Assistant Professor of Spanish

TITLE: Assistant Professor Tenure Track

START DATE: August 2025

QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful candidates will provide evidence of the following qualifications:

Required:

Earned doctorate in Spanish (specialization open) or related field by August 2025
Nearnative oral and written communication skills in Spanish and English
Relevant experience in one or more of the following areas: cultures and/or literatures of the Americas; Spanish for the professions; U.S. Latinx studies; translation/interpretation; study abroad; Spanish as a heritage language; online teaching
Evidence of teaching excellence promise of continued scholarly activity and willingness to support the mission of the college

Preferred

Demonstrated ability to teach another language at the elementary and intermediate levels strongly preferred.

Successful candidates must be willing to support the Colleges mission and contribute to the strategic plan.

DUTIES:

The successful candidate will fulfill the duties of tenure track faculty to include:

Teach three 14week undergraduate courses in both fall and winter terms including elementary intermediate and advanced language/culture courses
Teach one 4week May term course including travel courses on a rotation
Advise student majors in Spanish; develop new courses in area of specialization and for the new THRIVE General Education plan
Engage in scholarship and service appropriate to the liberal arts setting
