Spousal Victim Support Worker

Permanent Full Time

Details of the Position

Provides direct services to victims of relationship violence. Ensures that the intent of the Ministrys Policy on Violence Against Women in Relationships is being met and that relevant social health and criminal justice agencies are working together to provide consistent and appropriate assistance to women who are victims of relationship violence.

Qualifications

A degree in social work counselling or a related field.

A minimum of two years related work in a similar environment or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

Direct program delivery experience in the criminal justice system with working knowledge of communitybased programs.

Program Manager; works under the guidance and direction of the Coordination Committee of Violence Against Women in Relationships.

Additional Information

This position is required to work in an environment with clients experiencing crisis or interpersonal situations. Support is often related to longterm impacts of physical financial verbal sexual and emotional abuse. Staff are often working on their own on site.

This position also requires union membership satisfactory completion of a criminal records search and Standard First Aid Certificate.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide information and assistance to clients dealing with criminal justice and social service systems.

2. Interview clients assess problems and outline services provided by the program. Develop and implement counselling and intervention process to assist clients.

3. Act as an advocate for the client and provide support for them including court orientation and accompaniment. Liaise with other criminal justice sectors while the client is in the program.

4. Maintain a thorough knowledge of community resources to meet clients needs.

5. Facilitate an effective community response to incidents of violence against women with special emphasis on the criminal justice system through the local committee.

6. Participate in monitoring of policies and evaluating the effectiveness of such policies. Provide recommendations to committees to address concerns in the implementation of policies.

7. Maintain accurate reports and records on clients and provide monthly reports. Prepare case studies statistical reports and annual log of issues for the committee.

8. Participate on regional and provincial committees to identify and address systemic problems that can be forwarded to relevant government ministries.

9. Provide and facilitate specialized training workshops and education to community agencies and to regional and provincial bodies.

10. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Education Training and Experience:
