Job Description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Thurrock to assist with the appointment of a Communications Officer on a 3month contract highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: 17.64 23.13 per Hour

Summary:

This is an exciting opportunity to join Thurrock Councils Communications Team during a period of transformation as part of the A Fresh Start for Thurrock corporate plan. The Communications Officer will play a key role in delivering strategic communications ensuring proactive engagement with internal and external audiences and managing the Councils media relations. The ideal candidate will have local government communications experience a strong writing ability and the skills to work in a fastpaced political environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Communication Strategy & Messaging: Support the development and implementation of Thurrock Councils Communication Strategy. Deliver clear and effective messaging across all platforms ensuring consistency and adherence to corporate identity standards.
  • Campaigns & Marketing: Develop and manage targeted communication campaigns incorporating digital and social media strategies to enhance community engagement. Identify innovative approaches for maximizing audience reach.
  • Media & Public Relations: Manage relationships with the media respond to press inquiries draft media releases and support the delivery of press conferences and briefings. Provide crisis communication support when necessary.
  • Digital & Social Media Engagement: Leverage digital platforms to promote stories engage residents and enhance Thurrocks public image. Ensure best practices in social media communication and audience interaction.
  • Stakeholder & Community Engagement: Work collaboratively with council departments partners and local stakeholders to support initiatives that enhance Thurrocks community engagement and reputation.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Communications Public Relations Marketing or Journalism (desirable).

Experience:

  • Experience in media liaison PR marketing campaigns or internal communications.
  • Strong knowledge of digital communication techniques social media and marketing strategies.
  • Experience working in a local government or public sector communications role.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to translate complex messages into engaging content.

  • You should be available to work immediately or at a short notice.
  • You should have right to work in U.K
