Technical Manager I in the Maintenance and Operations Unit of the Estates Office (Ref.: 537412)
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced candidate for the position of Technical Manager I to oversee the maintenance of our sloping landscapes and tree population.
The Role
The appointee will play a vital role in ensuring the safety functionality and aesthetic appeal of our campus grounds. Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the maintenance and management of slopes and trees across the campus ensuring safety and compliance with environmental standards;
- Developing implementing and monitoring preventive maintenance programs for slope stabilization and tree health;
- Managing in-house staff and contractors to ensure high standards of work performance;
- Preparing budgets and cost estimates for projects related to slope and tree management;
- Conducting regular inspections and assessments to identify potential hazards and implement prompt corrective actions;
- Liaising with university departments contractors and external agencies as necessary; and
- Promoting and implementing sustainable practices in all aspects of work.

Qualifications and Qualities
Applicants should possess:
- A Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering Environmental Science or related disciplines;
- At least 10 years relevant experience working in landscaping or in a similar role preferably within an educational institution or large-scale organization;
- Corporate membership of HKIE or equivalent professional bodies;
- A valid Construction Industry Safety Training Certificate (Green Card) issued in accordance with Chapter 59 of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance (i.e. by attending the relevant safety training courses which are recognized by the Commissioner for Labour) or equivalent;
- Extensive knowledge of slope stabilization and tree management techniques;
- Strong leadership and team management skills;
- Excellent problem-solving decision-making and organizational abilities;
- Solid understanding of safety regulations and environmental standards; and
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
What We Offer
The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary.
