Job Summary

Peak School is seeking a part-time Educational Assistant to support our school library. Educational Assistants at Peak School play a crucial role in helping students access a balanced curriculum and work cohesively with teachers support staff and students.

In this specialised library role the Educational Assistant will manage daily library operations maintain digital and physical resource systems and actively engage with students to foster a love of reading and independent learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process catalogue and manage new resources.

  • Maintain the library management system (Oliver) including keeping the homepage up to date manually updating the student/class roll managing staff accounts and preparing library resources.

  • Daily reshelving of books maintaining tidiness and repairing resources.

Student Support & Engagement

  • Supervise and monitor students to ensure a safe welcoming library environment.

  • Conduct duties before school during snack and during lunchtime.

  • Train and mentor student librarians.

  • Collaboratively plan and execute school-wide literacy events such as Book Week alongside the librarian.

Competencies & Skills

  • Ability to build positive respectful relationships with primary-aged students managing behaviour with care and encouragement.

  • A team player with excellent communication skills.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.

  • A passion for and knowledge of childrens literature suitable for primary school students.

Experience

  • Prior experience working in an educational setting school library public library or bookstore. Preferred but not essential.

  • Experience with library management software Oliver is desirable.
