Role Title: Strategic Communications Adviser

Role Description:

The role is responsible for delivering high-quality media briefing and communications support to ensure clear consistent and strategic messaging across the organisation. This includes drafting and coordinating media materials such as press releases talking points and responses to media enquiries brief writing while maintaining alignment with organisational priorities and reputational considerations. The position requires the preparation of concise accurate and wellstructured briefs for senior leaders synthesising complex information into clear recommendations key messages and risk considerations to support effective decision-making.

In addition the role leads the development and implementation of communication products tailored to a range of internal and external audiences ensuring messaging is timely engaging and fit-for-purpose. This involves close collaboration with stakeholders and subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and consistency as well as managing competing priorities in fast-paced environments. Strong writing editing and stakeholder engagement skills are essential along with the ability to exercise sound judgement adapt messaging to different contexts and uphold a high standard of professionalism in all communications outputs.

Essential Requirements:

• Experience in Defence Brief writing media releases and talking points
• Strong writing and communication
• Ability to work to tight deadlines
• Experience in Ministerial writing including ministerial submissions and representations.

Desirable Requirements:

• Strong stakeholder engagement skills.

Required Security Clearance Level: NV1

Location: Canberra - Remote may be supported
