About the role:
At Samsara were building the connected operations cloud to transform the worlds physical operations. Our Identity and Access Management (IAM) team secures access for millions of users and protects the integrity of over 2.3 million connected devices worldwide. IAM is the foundation of our security posture enabling customers to trust Samsara with their most critical datawhile ensuring a seamless user experience at scale.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to drive innovation and resilience across Samsaras IAM this role you will combine technical depth security expertise and leadership to shape our authentication and authorization strategy. Youll work across the stackfrom frontend and backend services to data storage and integrationswhile mentoring teammates and influencing technical direction for one of the most business-critical areas of Samsaras platform.
This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US or Canada. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this role.

In this role you will:
- Design and evolve IAM foundations for AI Agents including agent identity permission guardrails and enterprise-grade audit systems.
- Design and build authentication and authorization systems that are reliable standards-based and performant for millions of global users.
- Propose and implement technical solutions guide system architecture and ensure features are integrated across the stack (frontend backend databases APIs AI agents).
- Partner with Infrastructure Security Compliance and Product Engineering to solve complex cross-functional risk and governance challenges.
- Support and develop engineers on the team through code reviews design discussions and career development.
- Contribute to our culture and maintain an inclusive collaborative and supportive work environment where all Samsara employees can grow and thrive.
- Champion role model and embed Samsaras cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success Build for the Long Term Adopt a Growth Mindset Be Inclusive Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.
Minimum requirements for the role:
- 6 years of experience building and operating production software using modern engineering practices.
- Strong understanding of cloud security IAM systems threat models and mitigations.
- Strong programming/coding fundamentals in a language such as Java Python or Golang
- Experience designing and operating highly reliable scalable distributed systems.
- Experience building security-sensitive or identity-related systems in production.
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Strong communication skills and ability to influence without direct authority.
An ideal candidate also has:
- Enterprise Identity and Access Management experience: OAuth2 OIDC SSO SAML JWT Session Management or adjacent identity/security systems.
- In-depth experience with AWS Azure or GCP.
- Experience building secure authentication or authorization capabilities for web and/or mobile.
- Experience building AI Agent or Non-Human identity platforms.
