Job Summary:
- Under general direction observes and practices sterile technique maintains asepsis anticipates and assists the surgeon as needed.
- Actively participates in patient care and safety.
- Utilizes OR supplies conservatively and operates as a team member of the OR staff.
Job Responisbilities:
- Follows Infection Control policies and procedures and demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique.
- Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively.
- Assists the surgeon when needed gowning gloving draping and passing of instruments and other related items during the procedure.
- Anticipates the surgeons need for instruments sutures and equipment.
- Maintains an organized operative field at all times by keeping the instruments clean and in their proper place.
- Keeps an accurate sponge tape needle dissector and instrument count.
- Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with preference cards and identifies conflicts or problems.
- Cares appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case.
- Provides a safe surgical environment for the patient identifying potential hazards to the surgeon RN and assisting RN circulator in preoperative checks of equipment.
- Displays knowledge of potential hazards (equipment chemical or gases) within the Operating Room.
- Utilizes experienced OR staff as a resource and acts as a resource for new OR personnel.
- Assists in suturing retracting suctioning under direction of the surgeon.
- Handles and identifies specimens per policy.
- Expedites the effective and efficient turn-over of the OR between cases.
- Takes rotating call duty.
- Will perform additional responsibilities as requested.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Previous Operating Room experience.
- Previous Surgical Technologist experience.
Required Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
- NBSTSA - Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
- BLS Certification (AHA HSI or American Red Cross).
