The Junior Microbiology Analyst coordinates and executes a variety of technical and administrative activities to support the day-to-day operations of the MGS Regional Microbiology Laboratory.

The Microbiology Junior Analyst is a crucial member of the Regional Laboratory team and reports directly to the Microbiology Laboratory Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Physically receive samples for testing and electronically receive and register samples in LIMS

Perform quality and documentation checks as necessary

Prepares and maintains documentation and records in accordance with the Regional Laboratory Quality management system and aligned standards

Reports deviations of analytical equipment through monitoring systems to the Microbiological Operations Manager and/or Senior Analyst

Operates manages and maintains analytical and preparation equipment in optimal operational conditions

Participates in inventory management reagents and consumables to avoid shortages and regularly monitors needs of the regional laboratory

Participates in equipment and method validation

Responsible for preparing microbiological media and reagents

Responsible for decontamination of biohazardous waste

Capable of conducting the initial stages of analyses (sample receipt and preparation) according to the operational procedures in the laboratory

Manage document cycling and supports related administrative tasks

Performs cleaning processes for surfaces equipment and utensils as per the frequency established in work instructions

Carries out environmental monitoring activities according to work instructions

Comply with Site and Laboratory Health Safety and Environment requirements.

Context and Scope

The scope of this role is to ensure the optimal functioning of the Regional Laboratory.

The Microbiology Laboratory performs microbiological analyses of raw materials environmental samples stability samples and finished products.

Reporting to the Operations Manager the Junior Microbiology Laboratory Analyst supports the operation of the Regional Microbiology Laboratory.

As the Regional Microbiology Laboratory operates 7 days a week this role may be required to work shifts during operation.

Minimum Qualifications

Associates of Science or Bachelors of Science in Biology/Microbiology Chemistry or related fields

Minimum of 2 years of experience in microbiological analyses or related fields ability to lift 40 lbs

Knowledge of service laboratory routine

Knowledge of aseptic technique cross-contamination management/mitigation in laboratories

Excellent organizational and follow-up skills

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team

Flexibility to change priorities and schedules

Good communication skills written and spoken in English

Strong communication/report writing skills.

Strong communicator detail oriented positive mindset self-starter reliable and needs to be a team player. The individual needs to be ok with ambiguity and cannot be resistant to change.

Good to have skills: LIMS experience experience in Microsoft Office

Deal breakers what would automatically disqualify a candidate from this role Inability to work weekends. Must be able to lift 30 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors

Experienced in PCR technologies ISO 17025 knowledge experienced in use of petri film cultural plating methods anaerobic plating methods

Practical and theoretical knowledge of ISO 17025

Knowledge of cross-contamination management/mitigation in laboratories

Experience and skill in using computers filling out spreadsheets (Excel) Word ELN and laboratory information management systems (LIMS)

Practical laboratory skills and ability to troubleshoot/maintain complex laboratory instrumentation

Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of biological risk control plans laboratory safety chemical management
