Job Summary
Primo Center is seeking qualified caring individuals who want to make a difference supporting families experiencing homelessness by working as a House Manager.
ABOUT PRIMO CENTER
The mission of Primo Center is to empower families to become productive responsible and independent members of their community. Today Primo Center is a leader in providing family shelter and permanent supportive housing integrated physical dental and mental health care early childhood development and supportive services to homeless families in Chicago. The organization has considerable capacity and experience as a provider of services to families affected by extreme poverty and homelessness assisting more than 1100 people each year with the aid of volunteers over 90 staff members and an annual operating budget of nearly $10 million.
Primo Center works in high-need communities across Chicago operating facilities in Austin on Chicagos west side Englewood on the south side and Hermosa on the northwest side.
Position Summary: As a House Manager you will work to ensure the health safety and well-being of the persons residing in our Interim Shelter or Permanent Supportive Housing locations. Working under the direction of the Shelter Director Program Director or Property Manager duties include providing residents with support for daily living activities teaching and assisting residents with personal hygiene room/unit cleanliness cooking chores and other daily activities.
POSITION RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Daily monitoring of family interaction within a communal residential environment enforce house rules chores and regulations to ensure a safe and harmonious living space.
- Assisting with the cleaning of all common areas to insure overall cleanliness of the building.
- Plan and schedule residential activities monitor bed capacity organize and distribute supplies and donations.
- Assist residents with daily living skills conduct life skill training events and assist program director with projects that support residents and their extended families.
- Attend all scheduled meetings and mandatory training as directed and will ensure health safety and welfare of the residents.
- Ensure individuals are supported in the most respectful and professional manner.
- Ensure that health and safety codes are adhered to at all times and by all residents.
- Demonstrate an understanding and utilization of Harm Reduction and Trauma Informed Care.
- Experience and ability to use computers for data entry communication and report writing
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in daily logs incident reports and any additional reporting requirements
- Support the team in de-escalating crises and stabilizing individuals
- Maintains relevant current knowledge of the field by participation in training sessions seminars and conferences
- Additional job duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Commitment to Primo Center Mission
- High School Diploma GED or training and work experience in related field and/or military service
- Demonstrate respect for cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients and is willing and competent to work with a diverse client population
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team
- Must be available for after hours weekend and on-call work as needed
- Ability to use available technology such as computers landline telephones smart phones tablets etc.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and do other labor-intensive tasks
Physical Requirements
To ensure effective on-site leadership and client support this role requires the ability to:
- Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. (e.g. supplies small office or home appliances)
- Stand walk bend and climb stairs frequently throughout a shift
- Respond rapidly to crisesmove quickly across the facility and grounds
- Perform routine inspections of communal areas (bending reaching)
- Work in a variety of indoor settings; occasional exposure to loud or crowded environments
Preferred qualifications
- BA degree in related field or equivalent combination of education
- Working knowledge of the child welfare system
- Professional leadership experience
Reporting Relationship
This position reports to the Shelter Director Program Director or Property Manager and has close working relationships with case managers security housekeeping and maintenance staff and works collaboratively with other staff.
Compensation and Benefits This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon the sustained availability of grant funding.
