Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) the Care Companion plays a vital role in supporting patient care and ensuring a safe clean and comfortable environment. This position requires continuous observation compassionate assistance with daily needs and clear communication with the care team.Position Details:
Care Companion
- Pay Rate: $15/hour
Scheduling
- Minimum of 12 hours per month
- Flexible self-scheduling
- Shift options: 4 8 or 12 hours
- Rotating weekends and holidays required
Orientation
- On-site: Mondays 8:00 AM 4:30 PM
or self-paced e-learning - Additional 4-hour in-person orientation after start date
Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with daily needs such as transporting ambulating toileting and meal ordering
- Maintain a clean safe and organized patient environment
- Provide continuous visual observation of assigned patient(s)
- Communicate patient behavior needs and safety concerns to the care team
- Support infection prevention and safety standards
- Follow direction from nursing staff in care-related activities
Primary Duties
- Receive and understand patient handoff information (care needs diagnosis fall risk communication barriers etc.)
- Remain in the patient room to ensure constant observation (leave only as directed)
- Monitor and promptly report behavioral or condition changes
- Maintain a safe and orderly patient environment
- Escalate safety concerns immediately (e.g. behavioral changes aggressive actions)
- Follow regulatory standards and facility policies
- Practice universal precautions consistently
- Complete additional tasks as assigned by RN LPN or leadership
Safety & Risk Management
- Follow policies related to safety confidentiality and patient rights
- Demonstrate strong infection prevention practices
- Support safety measures such as:
- Fall prevention
- Restraint monitoring
- Patient identification
- Suicide precautions
- Promote a culture of safety and accountability
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while remaining alert and attentive
- Must maintain focus without distractions from personal activities
Important: Cell phone use is not permitted during shifts to ensure full attention to patient safety and care.
