The Personnel Board of Jefferson County (PBJC) is an independent agency within the County and is not a part of any political, county, or municipal subdivision within the Merit System. (PBJC) is the human resources agency responsible for administering the civil service system in Jefferson County. The civil service system (Merit system) of Jefferson County, Alabama is one of the state's largest employers with some nine thousand employees engaged in hundreds of occupations that range from Accountants to Air Pollution Engineers, from Business Systems Analysts to Bridge Construction Superintendents, from Nurses to Network Systems Administrators and just about everything in between.
