Our client sources sustainable, new carbon materials such as plants and biomass to develop a variety of products. Their mission is to close the loop on unsustainable goods for good.
Position Summary:
The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in the development of stable PU foam formulations to facilitate product development for commercial production. The Senior R&D Scientist will be responsible for the execution of pre-formulation, formulation experiments; assisting in product scale-up, developmental stability testing and technology transfer from R&D to manufacturing. The scientist will have an opportunity to participate in all stages of projects from the initial planning to product launch.
Responsibilities:
Development of new polyurethane flexible foam formulations using a methodical approach
Optimize existing polyurethane formulations to target desired mechanical properties and manufacturing process requirements
Troubleshooting experiments, analyze technical data and documents and provide project updates and recommendations to the project leader
Assist in technology transfer from R&D to manufacturing if needed
Sourcing of innovative renewable raw materials for formulation development and building and maintaining relationships with vendors
Ensures that all work is performed in compliance with the applicable SOPs, cGMP, GLP and established Safe Work Practices (SWP)

Review the compilation, evaluation, interpretation and reporting of experimental results to ensure the objectives of each project are met
Evaluate prospective literature, procedures and protocols to determine technical feasibility and project scope
Collaborate with external partners, such as universities and research centers, to achieve project goals
Required Education:
Minimum of Master degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science or related scientific discipline.
Knowledge and Experience:
Minimum 5-10 years of hands-on industrial experience with polyurethane foam formulations
End use experience such as developing foams for footwear, automotive, seating or bedding applications is a bonus
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
Able to work with minimal supervision and maintaining good and effective communication with internal stakeholders.
Possess a methodical approach to scientific research and product development
Ability to work collaboratively as a key part of a diverse team
Time management with the ability to maintain focus on productive tasks to be completed within specified timelines
Attention to detail with clear and complete documentation skills
Flexible with the ability to adapt, respond quickly and manage change in a fast-paced environment.
