Job Description:

Our mining client is busy with a very exciting Greenfields project and they require a Senior Metallurgist to join their team. The position will be accountable for developing maintaining modifying and improving the metallurgical strategies for the Modular DMS and Main Processing Plants while striving for zero harm for employees contractors and the environment. The Metallurgist/Senior Metallurgist will align business and operational strategies with the aim of maximising throughput and spodumene recovery whilst striving to optimise operating costs of process plant operation against a range of KPI’s.

Responsibilities:

  • Duties whilst in Australia: Active participation in the establishment of a health and safety culture;
  • Comply with all health and safety policies relating to the office and contractor; worksites and ensure a safe working environment;
  • Ensure all health safety and environmental incidents are reported promptly;
  • Provide technical input to the Modular DMS Plant Project during the design and construction phases in South Africa;
  • Provide technical support to the Ore Sorter Study/Project Flotation Studies and Main Processing Plant Design;
  • Provide other technical support and input to the Principal Metallurgist as required; and
  • Assume the Principal Metallurgist’s responsibilities when he is on leave
  • Mine site duties: Assist in providing and maintaining a safe work environment implement and deliver compliance with HS&E plans management systems and processes within the processing plant including supporting operations such as maintenance and laboratory;
  • Active participation in the establishment of a health and safety culture;
  • Comply with all health and safety environmental and regulatory policies relating to the project and ensure a safe working environment;
  • Ensure all health safety and environmental incidents are reported promptly;
  • Developing operating methods and procedures related to operational metallurgical and process engineering tasks initially for the Modular DMS Plant and then for the Main Processing Plant;
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting to the operations team to achieve production targets;
  • Assisting in the operation and management of the metallurgical laboratory for test work and projects for continuous improvement and plant optimisation;
  • Assist in the development of training modules and training of locals;
  • Resolving medium to long term metallurgical issues associated with the operating plant identifying and implementing continuous improvement projects;
  • Setting monitoring and reporting on short term metallurgical parameters and control strategies including setting addition rates and controlling and monitoring usage of all concentrator reagent consumables;
  • Assist in the metallurgical accounting and reconciliation process from the crusher feed to trucked final concentrate;
  • Reviewing and improving standards and safe operating procedures for all metallurgical tasks (both metallurgical lab and field works);
  • Interacting closely with Principal Metallurgist to develop a consistent approach with respect to continuous improvement and ensure information flow between operations (Modular DMS and Main Plants) is well maintained; and
  • Ability to read understand and interpret engineering drawings e.g. Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Must be Ghanaian citizen
  • Metallurgy Chemical Engineering and/or equivalent qualification;
  • Valid driver’s license;
  • First Aid certificate and knowledge in emergency response procedures;
  • 5 years in fixed plant processing;
  • Experience in hard rock processing desired but not essential;
  • Technical knowledge and experience in lab management processes including lab sample management systems desired but not essential;
  • Sound technical knowledge of crushing and dense medium separation (DMS) milling and flotation circuits;
  • Experience in commissioning and delivering operational improvement projects;
  • Demonstrated track record of problem solving and solution implementation in a multidiscipline teambased environment;
  • Experience in process trending and simulation software;
  • Exceptional report writing skills;
  • Ability to work in remote and/or high temperature environmental conditions; and
  • Possess or demonstrate ability to acquire the relevant Minerals Commission statutory certifications.
  • Fluency in English and the ability to speak Akan or Fante
