NOTE: this position is for TEC075 Principal I O Engineering /29 not the TEC136 Dir Software Engineering30. The reason for this is the template for the requisition creation is targeted at the distributed infrastructure with no consideration for the job codes used on the z System infrastructure teams.

This position is for an InOffice or Remote worker on a contractforhire basis. The qualified candidate will be expected to work a base 40 hours a week Sunday afternoon/evening (15:00 23:59 Central Time) for production change implementation and 24x7 oncall rotation.

Seeking a Highly Proficient Mainframe Db2 Systems Software Engineer

OVERVIEW: Experienced z System DB2 Infrastructure Software Engineer.

SMElevel knowledge of the installation/administration/support process starting with SMP/E through the removal of software components

REQUIREMENTS:

SMElevel knowledge of the installation/administration/support process starting with SMP/E through the removal of software components.

Must have 10 years experience in the following capabilities:

Configuring and using the SMP/E tool

Working with Db2 Logging & System Recovery/Disaster Recovery including GDPS

Incorporating the DB2 Subsystem into the LPAR IPLs

Working with DB2 Storage Groups (Note this is not part of the Mainframe Storage Team responsibilities)

Defining/implementing Performance features to Buffer Pools and other Db2 System level components

Defining and maintaining Data Sharing environments including the DB2 SysPlex

Downloading System Software from the vendor installing Db2 and Db2 Administration Tools throughout the various environments following all Change procedures ensuring Application Developer testing and the overall post implementation validation steps

Fully proficient in:

TSO and ISPF

JCL and ability to create and modify JCL job streams

z/OS dataset configurations and the ability to properly allocate various dataset configurations

All types of z/OS file types and file systems Including PDS/PDSE and VSAM

Experience working with Vendors to create/manage support tickets including describing the issues gathering packaging and uploading documentation and follow up as needed

Largescale z System Db2 environment experience in:

Multiple Parallel SysPlex configuration

DB2Plex

CICSPlex

Multiple physical z Systems machines

Multiple Production LPAR environment

General Processors / zIIP Processors

Experience applying all types of vendor Db2 software fixes:

KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Install/Maintain/Configure the Db2 software and related Db2 ISV software on the z/OS operating system running on z System hardware

Experience automating process using zOSMF

Experience recovering the Db2 environment in a Disaster Recovery environment

Demonstrates knowledge in all areas of z System Db2 Software administration

Designs and documents technical solutions required to support complex business system and/or integrations

Generate documentation for use by Computer Operations as well as the Technical Help Desk

z Systems Infrastructure/Platform lifecycle management (the lifecycle of Db2 Software from planning through operation and disposal or endoflife)

Install and support latest releases of Db2 software

Proven ability to

Interview process

Once the candidate s resume is reviewed and determined to qualify for an initial interview the candidate will attend a phone interview with multiple z System Leaders. This interview will be a get to know you type of discussion.

For the candidates that are deemed to be possible candidates for the position a next round of interviews will be scheduled that will cover the technical aspects. This will be an opportunity for the candidate to exhibit their level of understanding of the platform and technology based on the job posting requirements. We will insist on having the candidate in a room by themselves with audio and video on throughout all interviews.

After the interviews the Optum z System Leadership team will get together to decide on which if any of the candidates the team would want to move forward with. The team will work through the recruiting representative to extend an offer to those selected as well as inform the ones not selected.

Business Justification for this Position

Db2 is the primary database that supports the Claims systems on the z Platform. Virtually all of processing for the claims depends on this database being available and accurate at all times. The ability of the infrastructure support teams to provide this level of service for the UHG business requires close attention with an experienced staff.

This service is currently being provided by a team of three highly capable team members. As time progresses Optum is finding itself in a position where we can easily project out a couple of years and identify potential catastrophic events where up to two team members will retire. Since the Optum environment if a highly complex one it takes even the individuals that are Db2 technology SMEs a minimum of 12 14 months to get up to speed and have the capability to provide the proactive support required to provide 100% availability to the business.

This requisition is to provide continued SMElevel support to the business. Additionally this individual will be expected to mentor new individuals to the technology as we prepare to provide SMElevel support for 10 20 years in the future.

We seek a highly experienced Db2 SYSTEMS PROGRAMMER the individual that installs and administers the Db2 SYSTEM SOFTWARE. Included is an extensive list of requirements.
