By integrating direct service expertise with community-building strategy this position plays a foundational role in strengthening attraction integration and long-term belonging within Jewish Ottawa.


Position Summary

The Newcomer Outreach & Digital Hub Coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact for individuals and families who are new to Jewish Ottawa.

This shared positionhoused at Jewish Family Services of Ottawa (JFS) and supported by the Jewish Federation of Ottawacombines community outreach with digital infrastructure development. The Coordinator will proactively engage individuals build meaningful relationships and connect them to services programs and opportunities across the community.

This role is designed to serve all those who are new to Jewish Ottawa. For the purposes of this initiative a newcomer is defined in the broadest sense as any individual or family who is new to Jewish Ottawa. This includes but is not limited to:

individuals and families who are new to Canada;

Jewish individuals and families who have recently relocated to Ottawa from another province

residents of Ottawa who are newly engaging with or seeking entry into Jewish community life in Ottawa.

This definition reflects the initiatives commitment to attraction integration and belonging and recognizes diverse pathways into Jewish communal engagement.

In parallel the Coordinator will lead the development of a centralized Online Newcomers Hub including content that supports both community integration and Jewish settlement/resettlement needs. Working across both organizations this role will strengthen coordination improve access and create clearer pathways into Jewish communal life. The position includes regular office hours at both JFS and Federation and is structured as a high-impact pilot focused on attraction integration and belonging.

Duties and Responsibilities

The main duties of the role include:

  • Newcomer outreach & engagement
    • Serve as the welcoming central point of contact for all those new to Jewish Ottawa
    • Conduct outreach meetings (virtual and in-person) to understand needs interests and goals
    • Connect Jewish individuals to synagogues schools employment supports programs and volunteer opportunities
    • Support both social connections and access to services
    • Provide guidance and referrals related to Jewish settlement and resettlement supports where needed
    • Maintain a clear system to track engagement referrals and follow-ups
    • Identify trends emerging needs and service gaps and share insights with JFS and Federation leadership
    • Build relationships with community partners to ensure coordinated and seamless newcomer support
    • Maintain a visible presence through outreach and regular office hours at Federation
  • Online Newcomers Hub Development
    • Lead the planning development and launch of a centralized Online Newcomers Hub
    • Collaborate with a web designer to build an accessible user-friendly platform
    • Define user experience content structure and navigation pathways
    • Ensure the Hub includes clear access to:
      • Settlement and resettlement information (housing employment language and local services) Jewish institutions programs and community life
      • Employment and volunteer opportunities
      • Family youth and social supports
      • Community events and leadership pathways
    • Coordinate content contributions across partner organizations
    • Oversee ongoing updates maintenance and relevance of the platform post-launch

Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience in community outreach engagement or program coordination
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Experience working with newcomers immigrants or diverse populations is an asset
  • Ability to work collaboratively across organizations and stakeholders
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Familiarity with Jewish community life considered an asset
  • Comfort with digital platforms and content management systems
  • Language capacity in Hebrew required (oral & written)
  • Russian language skills an asset
