The University of the Fraser Valley invites applications for a 75% field experience coordinatorfor the Bachelor of Education in the School of Education which includes undergraduate level pre-requisite courses; a 10 ½ month post-degree Bachelor of Education (BEd) for prospective elementary middle and secondary teachers; a Master of Education (MEd) in Educational Leadership and Mentorship; an ECE Certificate; and an Inclusive Education Assistant (IEA) Certificate. Classes and offices are located on the Mission campus. The School of Education is committed to anti-racism social justice decolonization and Indigenization and these commitments are incorporated into every course program and practicum placement. This is a position for an educator who enjoys the challenge of working in an innovative School and whose philosophy about education is consistent with the mission statement values and commitments for the MEd BEd ECE Certificate and IEA Certificate. This individual will also share the facultys commitments to social justice and anti-racism and to decolonizing and Indigenizing practices. As such the successful candidate would have knowledge of the Schools values and commitments and will embed them into their curriculum design and delivery. Given the values and commitments of the School of Education we actively seek to include diverse perspectives and are intentional in our desire to support diverse identity expression.

The successful applicant will be responsible for recruiting arranging and supporting practicum placements for BEd students (teacher candidates). This includes (but is not limited to) coordinating the assignment of practicum placements based on the unique needs of individualteacher candidates (TCs); developing and maintaining relationships with individuals and sites that can provide placements for TCs (this includes district administration principals and teacher mentors and working closely with them to ensure a supportive and effective practicum experience; tracking the ongoing progress of TCs through the practicum; recruiting and supporting faculty mentors (those that support TCs in the field); identifying and addressing challenges faced by TCs in the field intervening as needed to provide guidance mediate concerns and develop appropriate solutions.); providing orientations to the practicum processes for both TCs and mentors; facilitating workshops for TCs on boundaries ethics educator presence and/or practicum preparation as needed by the program; and being part of the faculty team. A major responsibility for this position is to ensure that graduates who successfully complete SOE programs adhere to their professions Professional Standards and Code of Ethics. Applicants should be prepared to undertake travel throughout the Fraser Valley as part of their job responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of eight years of successful experience as a K-12 educator with public schools with leadership and/or administrative experience.

  • A Master of Education (relevant to the area of expertise).

  • Lived experience as or with superdiverse identities or communities.

  • Strong leadership interpersonal organizational and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated abilities to work collaboratively with colleagues students and community partners.

  • Experience with teacher candidate mentorship and/or district mentoring programs.

  • Experience with Indigenizing and decolonizing pedagogy in K-12 education.

  • Evidence of experience and/or scholarship oriented towards a progressive vision of teacher education that is inclusive and committed to social justice anti-racism decolonization Indigenization critical thinking pedagogical sensitivity reflective practice and the integration of knowledge and practice.

  • Evidence of strong judgement/application of ethical decision-making; conflict resolution; applying due process/university policy; well-organized/time management; and maintaining strong relationships with multiple external stakeholders.

  • Ability to contribute to innovative program development.

  • Previous experience with adult learners professional development curriculum development or supervision is an asset (preferred).
