Legal Advisor (Legal and Corporate Services)

Job Summary
- The V&A Waterfront Group of Companies (the V&A) owns develops and manages retail commercial marine and industrial hospitality (hotels) and residential to let properties within the V&A Waterfront precinct. It is accordingly a complex and diverse business.
- The Legal Advisor is responsible for ensuring a high standard of legal risk management as well as legal compliance with applicable legislation rules directives and policies pertaining to the business.
- The Legal Advisor is inter alia responsible for:
- drafting reviewing vetting and negotiating diverse agreements and leases applicable to the business and other legal documentation;
- dispute resolution (attending to disputes including instituting and defending legal proceedings as required providing instruction to and managing external service providers);
- various other matters pertaining to legal corporate practice such as insurance and trademarks; and
- conducting legal research and providing practical and operational legal advice to the business on a wide range of issues that affect or may affect the business.

StakeholderManagement
Engage with a variety of colleagues at all levels as well as external service providers
Support and advise all internal BUs on all legal matters
Continuously liaise with and provide information/feedback to and explain legal processes to relevant parties
Liaise provide instruction to and manage external legal service providers when necessary
Clarify and scrutinize information and advice provided
Status reporting
Provide in house training as required
Provide teamwork and support across the Legal and Corporate Services BU
Legal Compliance and Legal Risk Management
Ensure legal compliance and good governance with applicable legislation rules directives and all V&A policies and procedures at all times
Assessment of risk for the business in all matters
Identify risks and implement controls and actions in order to mitigate these as required
Establishing and implementing appropriate procedures and processes as required
Agreements
Drafting negotiating and reviewing commercial agreements for the business including service legal agreements marketing related agreements various leases and related development agreements and all ancillary documentation relating to the conduct of the business.
Reviewing and alignment of template agreements for all BUs including residential related
agreements mooring related agreements marketing relation agreements commercial leases retail leases service level agreements
At all times taking account of:

o the operational considerations of the business
At all times being proactive; efficient and effective
Dispute Resolution
Strategic decision making in respect of practicality risk assessment and cost/benefit analysis
Attend to all dispute resolution in respect of the business including instituting and defending formal proceedings
Instructions to and management of external legal counsel as necessary
At all times taking account of:
o stakeholder considerations
o commercial considerations
o the operational considerations of the business
At all times being proactive; efficient and effective
General Legal Advice
Provide accurate informed and understandable legal advice on a wide range of matters for all BUs as required
Proactively identify emerging new and existing legislation rules and directives relating to the business and interpret the impact thereof on the business.
