Your opportunity

Dillons Water Resources discipline is looking for an Intermediate Coastal Engineer/Designer to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to lead and contribute to challenging coastal projects mentor junior staff and deliver clients a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

Responsibilities

Coordination and Design

  • Lead and support coastal engineering projects providing technical guidance to project teams on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Manage and coordinate coastal engineering projects including coastal erosion and protection coastal flooding assessments port and harbour development and shoreline management planning.
  • Conduct and oversee hydrotechnical assessments for coastal environments including wave transformation storm surge modeling and tidal analysis.
  • Take ownership of the coastal engineering components of diverse multidisciplinary projects from small studies to large-scale infrastructure developments.
  • Plan develop and execute field investigations data collection programs and monitoring programs for coastal projects.
  • Prepare technical reports design drawings specifications and cost estimates with limited oversight from senior staff.
  • Liaise effectively with clients regulators and multidisciplinary project teams including engineers environmental scientists planners and other technical specialists.
  • Support proposal development including scoping work planning and fee estimation for coastal engineering pursuits.

Mentorship and Team Development

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers supporting their growth and professional development.
  • Review work prepared by junior staff and provide constructive feedback to ensure technical quality.
  • Contribute to building internal coastal engineering capacity through knowledge sharing training and the development of standards and best practices.

Learning and Development

  • Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Contribute to Dillons corporate profile through active participation in professional associations conferences and committees.

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in civil environmental coastal engineering or a closely related engineering field from an accredited university or college. A graduate degree in coastal engineering or a related discipline is considered an asset.
  • Four to seven years of relevant work experience preferably in the consulting industry.
  • Eligibility for or registration as a Professional Engineer (.) with a Canadian provincial regulatory body is considered an asset.

Experience

  • Proficiency with scripting software such as Matlab or Python for data analysis automation and post-processing of model results.
  • Demonstrated experience with Delft3D and/or other coastal hydrodynamic and numerical modeling suites (e.g. MIKE21 SWAN XBeach ADCIRC).
  • Hands-on experience leading or contributing to project design and/or construction involving coastal structures ecosystem restoration and/or navigation and dredging.
  • Working knowledge of design guidelines codes and standards related to coastal and marine engineering (e.g. CIRIA USACE Coastal Engineering Manual PIANC).
  • Proven ability to clearly document the basis of design and design development including data analysis assumptions calculations and conclusions to a standard suitable for client and regulatory review.
  • Practical experience applying climate change considerations and sea-level rise projections in coastal engineering design and planning.
  • Experience conducting coastal risk assessments including storm surge inundation mapping and vulnerability analysis.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with and lead components of work involving coastal marine and geotechnical engineers; coastal and ecological scientists; geomatics specialists; CAD drafters; and surveyors.
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) skills for report writing presentations proposals and client interactions.
  • Flexibility to travel sometimes with short notice to meet project deadlines and support field work.

Compensation

$75000-$125000

Dillon is including the salary range that we in good faith believe may offer for this position. It will be dependent on the successful applicants education experience and skills in addition to internal equity and geographic region. Dillon reserves the right to pay outside of the posted range contingent on factors unrelated to an applicants gender or other status protected by provincial and/or federal law.
