Relay Protection Engineer II Early to Mid level - Charlotte NC - 6 months
ReNuke Services is seeking a Relay Protection Engineer II for our clients site Charlotte NC!

Full time hybrid 3 days in office.
Protection / Asset Classification Engineer to support device and relay classification activities across multiple sites within the DEC and DEP regions. This role focuses on evaluating protective devices understanding how they are used and connected and accurately classifying them in accordance with Duke Energy standards.
This position is well-suited for an early- to mid-level engineer with a strong analytical mindset and foundational knowledge of power system protection.
Key Responsibilities
* Review and classify protection-related devices across assigned sites
* Determine device impact classifications (e.g. low impact medium impact non-DZ) per Duke Energy standards
* Apply Duke Energy internal coding and classification systems accurately and consistently
* Understand and evaluate protective relays including:
o What the relay protects
o How the relay functions
o How the relay is connected within protection schemes
* Perform high-level reviews of protection schemes (no detailed design required)
* Document classifications and findings across a high volume of sites (approximately 300400 sites over 6 months)
* Collaborate with internal stakeholders as needed to clarify classifications or standards
Required Qualifications
* Bachelors degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred) or equivalent experience
* Basic understanding of:
o Protective relays
o Power system protection concepts
o Electrical systems within a utility environment
* Strong analytical detail-oriented mindset
* Ability to quickly learn and apply internal standards and classification criteria
* Comfortable working independently after a short training period
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
* Utility power or energy industry experience
* Exposure to protection schemes or substation equipment
* Experience performing classification assessment or data-driven engineering work
