The organization provides comprehensive psychiatric behavioral health addiction medicine and forensic mental health services across inpatient facilities correctional settings and multidisciplinary treatment programs.
Position Summary
The organization is seeking a Board-Certified Psychiatrist to join its behavioral health team as a Principal Psychiatrist in a full-time 40-hour position.
This advanced clinical leadership role combines direct patient care responsibilities with administrative supervisory and multidisciplinary team oversight. The psychiatrist will provide psychiatric evaluations treatment planning medication management clinical supervision and collaboration across behavioral health programs while supporting quality initiatives and operational excellence.
The position offers the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative psychiatric environment serving patients with complex mental health and substance use disorders.
Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations diagnosis and treatment for patients with behavioral health and substance use disorders
Develop and manage individualized treatment plans including medication management and psychotherapy interventions
Provide direct patient care facility coverage and on-call psychiatric support as scheduled
Conduct patient rounds and collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment teams regarding care planning and discharge coordination
Review treatment plans medical records and clinical documentation to ensure compliance with clinical standards and regulatory requirements
Supervise and mentor psychiatrists physicians psychologists therapists social workers nursing staff and other interdisciplinary team members as needed
Participate in case conferences grand rounds staff education and clinical training initiatives
Perform advanced psychiatric risk assessments and consult on complex behavioral health cases
Participate in quality assurance utilization review and performance improvement initiatives
Assist with clinical program development policy discussions and operational planning
Attend court hearings and provide clinical testimony when required
Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the EMR system
Qualifications
Education: MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
Board Status: Board-Certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or Board-Certified in Adult or Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
Licensure: Active or eligible Connecticut medical license
Experience: Experience treating patients with psychiatric illnesses and substance use disorders preferred
Clinical Skills: Strong expertise in psychiatric assessment medication management psychotherapy and interdisciplinary collaboration
Leadership Skills: Ability to supervise mentor and support multidisciplinary clinical teams
Additional Requirements: Must maintain eligibility for participation in federal healthcare programs
Preferred Qualifications: Additional expertise in areas such as addiction medicine geriatrics forensic psychiatry ABI/TBI or related behavioral health specialties is highly valued
