Job Summary

Job Title: Therapeutic Support Classroom Teacher

Qualifications: Bachelors Degree or higher coupled with a North Carolina Teaching License in the content area for which you desire to teach.

Special Considerations: Staff must have excellent verbal and written communication skills excellent classroom management strategies and extensive knowledge of PBIS and other positive behavior practices. Persons in this position also must possess the ability to effectively collaborate with others work with diverse groups of people create positive and energetic environments and maintain emotional control under stress. Training in CPI is required but the district will provide training if needed.

Reports to: School Administration (Principal and Assistant Principals)

Supervises: All students within the school environment.

General Statement of Job

Under the direction of the School Principal with support of the Chief Student Services Officer and MGSD behavior team the Therapeutic Support Classroom (TSC) teacher is responsible for the academic behavioral and social/emotional needs of students who qualify for the program. Person(s) in this role must possess a high level of knowledge in the continuum of behavioral support services and instruction in the K-5 curriculum.

Responsibilities Duties & Expectations:

  • The teacher will create a classroom behavior management system to ensure each child is provided positive interventions and supports that promote student-teacher relationships and foster a positive climate within the classroom.
  • The teacher should follow the standard course of study addressing the specific needs of the students through individualization differentiation and collaboration with multiple team members ensuring a smooth transition back to their general education settings.
  • The teacher should provide direct behavioral instruction in using replacement behaviors that aligns with Behavior Intervention Plan goals.
  • The teacher is expected to collect data and monitor progress of individual students and collaborate with the problem solving team or Individual Education Plan team to adjust interventions for student success.
  • When behavioral and academic problems arise the teacher is responsible for documenting the interaction and contacting the parents. The teacher should also keep attendance and grade records as required by the school.
  • Build meaningful relationships with students as individuals parents and caregivers
  • Provide for the general social/emotional well-being of students
  • Identify academic and behavior strategies for students who are placed in the classroom due to significant behavioral needs
  • Collaborate with school personnel to include: teachers (curricular & non-curricular) mental health professionals teacher assistants parents and stakeholders to coordinate student goals and expectations
  • Schedule and participate in regular team/program meetings
  • Plan and execute educational in-class and outdoor sensory activities to meet the needs of the students
  • Review and understand students Individualized Education Plans Behavior Intervention Plans Psychological reports Social Service reports.
  • Ensure the necessary support staff is provided student information to complete their duties safely and effectively
  • Ongoing home/school coordination for outside services and supports
  • Teach combined grade classes and/or teach multiple subjects.

  • Cooperates with school administration in planning appropriate in-service training programs at the school or district level.
  • Participates in all faculty staff department grade level and committee meetings as required.

Evaluation and Measurement of Performance: All teachers are evaluated using the North Carolina Educator Effectiveness System formal and informal classroom walkthroughs along with formal and informal observations by School Administration and Central Services Administration.

Terms of Employment: 10 month contract with salary commensurate with the NC State Teacher Salary Schedule as outlined by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Full benefits package offered with full-time employment.
