Job Summary
Job Description : Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher
Purpose of Position
To provide specialized instruction and case management for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) within a safe nurturing and technology-rich environment. The EC teacher ensures that every student has equal access to the NC Standard Course of Study fostering critical thinking and real-world skills while maintaining strict compliance with state and federal special education regulations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelors degree or higher in Special Education.
- Licensure: Valid North Carolina Teaching License in at least one area of disability.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties
1. Specialized Instruction & Planning
- IEP Alignment: Develops and implements instructional plans compatible with district goals and specific IEP goals focusing on academic behavioral and social skill development.
- Adaptive Methods: Employs varied technology-rich instructional methods to meet diverse learning needs including the adaptation of materials for both in-person and online environments.
- Social Skills: Designs and delivers engaging lessons specifically targeting individual social-emotional needs as outlined in student IEPs.
- Assessment: Utilizes formative and summative assessmentsalong with psychological and educational datato monitor progress provide feedback and modify instruction.
2. Case Management & Compliance
- IEP Development: Leads the development of Individualized Education Programs using a comprehensive review of diagnostic info test scores discipline records and medical reports.
- Record Keeping: Maintains meticulous EC records in full compliance with state and federal guidelines (IDEA) and MGSD policies.
- Legal Adherence: Upholds school board policy and ensures all student information remains confidential.
3. Collaboration & Leadership
- Partnerships: Acts as a bridge between families general education teachers and support personnel to ensure student success.
- Classroom Management: Establishes a classroom management system that creates a safe predictable environment conducive to learning and practicing appropriate behaviors.
- School Integration: Shares responsibility for supervising all students and participates actively in faculty meetings PLC collaborations and committee work.
4. Professionalism & Growth
- Professional Ethics: Maintains punctual attendance and ethical work habits serving as a public role model for the community.
- Continuous Improvement: Stays current on special education trends and technological advancements through workshops conferences and professional organizations.
Evaluation & Terms
- Evaluation: Conducted via the North Carolina Educator Effectiveness System (NCEES) supplemented by classroom walkthroughs and observations by School and Central Services Administration.
- Employment: 10 11 or 12-month contract; salary based on the NC State Teacher Salary Schedule with a full benefits package.
