Counsellor
Job Summary
We are excited to recruit Counsellor who would have an internal title as Assistant Manager Counselling to join our vibrant community!
The Counsellor (Assistant Manager Counselling)provides professional counselling services that support students mental health emotional wellbeing and academic success. The role includes early intervention and crisis management working closely with internal and external stakeholders to enhance the overall student experience.
Key Responsibilities
- This role is responsible for counselling and case management mental health and wellbeing support crisis intervention and risk management stakeholder engagement development of awareness initiatives delivery of wellness training programmes administrative and compliance requirements.
- Provide individual and group counselling for students experiencing personal emotional or academic challenges.
- Conduct intake assessments develop intervention plans and monitor student progress over time.
- Maintain accurate and confidential case records in accordance with ethical professional and legal requirements.
- Support students withconcerns such as anxiety stress depression adjustment and interpersonal or family-related issues.
- Design and deliver wellbeing initiatives and preventive programmes that promote resilience and early help-seeking
- Assess and manage high-risk cases including self-harm and suicidal ideation.
- Develop risk mitigation and safety plans as required
- Liaise with external healthcare providers emergency services and relevant authorities when necessary
- Work collaboratively with internal teams such as Learning Centre Exams Department Progressions team Psychology Clinic and Student Affairs.
- Engage external partners including the Institute of Mental Health Silver Ribbon and Family Service Centres
- Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and meetings
- Conduct workshops on topics such as stress management resilience coping strategies and exam anxiety.
- Provide guidance and training to staff on identifying and supporting students in distress
- Train and support student wellness buddies who will support peer-based mental health support.
- Develop resources and materials to promote mental health awareness across the student body.
- Ensure counselling practices and documentation comply with institutional policies and professional standards.
- Prepare periodic reports on counselling trends service utilisation and outcomes.
- Serve as the site coordinator and supervisor for Masters students undertaking counselling placements at the university.
Requirements
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Counselling.
- Minimum provisional clinical membership with the Singapore Associationfor Counselling (SAC) or an equivalent professional body.
- At least2-5years of counselling experience preferably within an educational setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Empathy cultural sensitivity and commitment to confidentiality
- Sound judgement in crisis management and problem-solving
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Sound clinical skills with a student-centered and outcomes focused approach
