Primary Purpose
Develop specialized instruction and transition services for students ages 18 receiving special
education services supporting successful outcomes in employment independent living and
community participation. This position designs individualized instruction manages vocational
and community-based learning programs and coordinates transition services aligned with IEP
goals across both district-based and community-based program models.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
Bachelors degree from an accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement
Valid drivers license
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of IDEA FAPE and transition services for students with disabilities
Experience with work-based learning (WBL) and community-based instruction (CBI)
Ability to implement IEP goals and monitor progress through data collection
Strong organizational communication and collaboration skills
Knowledge of vocational training program management and basic budgeting/inventory
Ability to safely transport students and support community-based activities
Experience
Two years of special education experience; transition services preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instruction & Transition Services
Train program staff in direct instruction in vocational skills independent living functional
academics and community access
Develop and implement lessons aligned to IEP goals and individualized transition plans
Serve as ARD case manager; monitor document and report student progress
Knowledgeable about graduation requirements and IEP continuer
Vocational Programs & Student Enterprises.
Oversee student-led vocational programs including café/catering operations print shop
production and campus-based enterprises
Teach workplace readiness customer service and foundational business operations
(inventory budgeting production)
Supervise use of specialized equipment and ensure safe effective operations.
Work-Based Learning; Community Instruction
Coordinate and provide job coaching at campus and community job sites
Develop and maintain partnerships with employers and community agencies
Facilitate community-based instruction (e.g. banking shopping transportation
recreation)
Support students in accessing adult services (SSI TWC-VRS LIDDA) and obtaining
identification.
Program Management
Manage the implementation of both district-based and community-based transition
program models
Maintain Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with participating county districts and
complete billing for contracted transition services
Manage program operations including budget inventory instructional materials and
equipment
Coordinate transportation and logistics for all off-campus activities
Maintain program documentation procedures and compliance requirements
Maintain BCSS technology iPads for testing support staff and students
Update technology devices and issue annually to BCSS staff in accordance with policy.
Collaboration & Communication
Collaborate with staff families and community partners to support student outcomes
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding progress and transition
planning
Participate in ARD meetings and professional development.
Working Conditions
Frequent standing bending lifting (60 lbs) and active supervision of students
Work across the classroom vocational labs and community settings
Frequent travel for job sites and community-based instruction; indoor and outdoor
Maintain emotional control under stress.
