Position Overview

The Credit Underwriter will be responsible for evaluating loan applications assessing creditworthiness and ensuring sound risk management practices in line with company policies and regulatory a fintech start-up environment this role requires balancing speed and efficiency with thorough analysis to support scalable lending operations. The Credit Underwriter will collaborate with multiple teams and report directly to the Head of Risk Management.

Key Responsibilities

1. Credit Evaluation & Decisioning

• Review loan applications and supporting documents to determine applicant eligibility

• Conduct credit analysis using internal scoring models financial statements and external credit bureau data

• Assess risk factors including repayment capacity collateral (if applicable) and customer profile

• Approve or recommend loan decisions within assigned authority limits

2. Risk Management & Compliance

• Ensure underwriting practices comply with BSP regulations data privacy laws and company policies

• Identify potential fraud risks and escalate suspicious cases to the Risk team

• Maintain accurate records of credit decisions for audit and compliance purposes

3. Collaboration & Process Support

• Work closely with Sales Collections and Product teams to align underwriting criteria with business objectives

• Provide feedback to improve credit policies scoring models and loan approval workflows

• Support training initiatives for front-line staff on credit documentation and risk awareness

4. Continuous Improvement & Innovation

• Recommend enhancements to underwriting processes for efficiency and scalability

• Contribute to the development of digital-first underwriting solutions such as automated scoring and AI-driven risk assessment

• Stay updated on fintech lending trends regulatory changes and market practices

Qualifications & Job Requirements

Education & Background

• Bachelors degree in Finance Accounting Economics Business Administration or a related field

Experience & Industry Awareness

• 24 years of experience in credit underwriting risk assessment or lending operations

• Strong knowledge of consumer lending fintech products and Philippine regulatory requirements

Personal & Professional Attributes

• Analytical mindset with a sharp attention to detail

• Strong decision-making and communication skills

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced digital-first start-up environment

• Serious responsible and proactive work attitude

Skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and specialized credit analysis tools

• Adaptable to evolving fintech lending models and automated workflows

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
