Job Summary

At the YMCA of Southern Interior BC exercise is a powerful tool for preventing and managing chronic disease. Reporting to the Health Promotions Supervisor this role supports specialty heath programs through evidenceâbased assessments exercise prescription and coaching. Working with individuals living with chronic conditions youll help improve mobility independence and quality of life in a supportive communityâfocused environment.

  • Reporting to the Health Promotions Supervisor support YMCA Health Promotion Programs including Health Hips & Knees Healthy Hearts Breathe Well and Healthy Aging and Exercise is Medicine
  • Utilizing CSEP guidelines carry out intake and ongoing assessment of Health Promotion Program participants and any Y members who have health concerns beyond the scope of practice of a regular fitness leader.
  • Provide client centered one-on-one coaching and exercise prescription to clients with chronic health conditions to help individuals maintain functional independence and quality of life
  • Collaborate with the Supervisor Manager and colleagues to create a culture of exceptional customer experience and community for members staff and volunteers
  • Lead and support specialty health group fitness classes
  • Deliver exceptional health and fitness programs and services as per YMCA Health Coaching and CSEP standards and best practices
  • Support the Seniors Health Assessments twice a year
  • Ensure safety of all members participants staff and property by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained amongst all members and staff
  • Actively participate in and promote philanthropy through the YMCA Association initiatives
  • Other duties as required

Wed love to hear from people with:

  • Individuals planning to acquire their CSEP CEP (Clinical Exercise Physiologist) certification
  • A degree in Human Kinetics/Kinesiology
  • Current Weight training/Personal Training Certificate by a recognized governing body (e.g. BCRPA CFES CSEP)
  • Current Standard First-Aid with CPR-C certification
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Group Fitness Instruction Certification is an asset (e.g. Cycle Aqua Strength Yoga)

Additional Information:

Starting hourly wage is $21.64-$26.60 based on experience and qualifications
