Job Summary
Join a leading aerospace production team supporting Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita Kansas.
This role focuses on aircraft airframe assembly inspection structural verification and quality assurance of fuselage composite and structural components. You will ensure all assemblies meet strict engineering quality and regulatory standards across multiple aircraft production stages.
- Perform inspection of aircraft structures assemblies and subassemblies in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications
- Use and interpret blueprints inspection manuals and technical documentation
- Utilize precision measuring tools and inspection equipment to verify part conformity
- Follow and enforce Quality Management System (QMS) policies and procedures
- Verify tools gauges and inspection equipment are properly calibrated and qualified
- Inspect production processes and aircraft assemblies for compliance and accept/reject criteria
- Prepare maintain and complete quality inspection records and documentation
- Perform and support nonconformance reporting (NCR) and documentation in MES systems
- Conduct process audits surveillance and quality verification activities
- Investigate and support root cause analysis and corrective action reporting (non-disciplinary)
- Ensure compliance with company policies procedures and aerospace manufacturing standards
- Work across equivalent or lower-level inspector roles as required
- Support inspection activities in cleanroom and structural assembly environments
- Perform inspection of composite and fuselage structures throughout production stages
Qualifications :
- 35 years of experience desired (willing to consider candidates with 2 years of strong relevant aerospace experience)
- Must possess skills and knowledge to perform in one or more of the following classifications:
- Systems / Payload Structures Mechanic
- Assembly Mechanic A
- Fuselage Assembly Mechanic A
- Underwing Composites Mechanic A
- Metals Mechanic A
- Process Mechanic A3
- Ability to certify for Systems inspection function
- Ability to assist in training others as applicable to job role
- Ability to investigate and document Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action (non-disciplinary)
- Ability to determine and submit test results and investigation statements
- Ability to perform process and hardware audits and surveillance activities
- Ability to perform all functions associated with Level B inspection requirements
Experience in composite fabrication and composite structure environments (787 program exposure preferred)
- This is not a rework-only project; support is needed to resolve production and quality issues
- Work includes both:
- Cleanroom environment (initial barrel fabrication processes)
- Structural assembly environment (post-cleanroom operations)
Certification & Testing Requirements
- All inspectors ( must obtain their inspection stamp within the required timeframe after training as defined in initial onboarding
- Candidates must successfully complete the following QA qualification tests:
- Assembly Sealing (written and practical)
- Post Assembly Sealing (written and practical)
- Electrical Bond and Ground All Meters (written)
- Electrical Bond Final Inspection (written and practical)
- Precision Measuring Tools (written and practical)
- Skin Quality Inspection (written)
Required Training Courses (Must Pass)
- Researching and Creating an NCR in MES
- Solid Rivet Inspection
- Blind Fastener Inspection
- Hex-Drive Bolt Inspection
- Lockbolt Inspection
- Bolt and Nut Inspection
- Fastener Inspection on Composites
