Essential and Desirable Criteria

Essential criteria

Experience

• Experience of working directly with young people and/or adults
• Experience of working within safeguarding or managing safeguarding concerns
• Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently managing own workload
• Experience of working with external agencies and stakeholders

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at Grade C / 4 or above (or equivalent)
• Willingness to complete appropriate Safeguarding Officer training within the first six weeks of employment

Skills and abilities

• Ability to problem solve and make quick wellinformed decisions in challenging situations
• Ability to prioritise tasks and take initiative in a fastpaced changing environment
• Excellent ICT skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with professionals parents and young people
• Excellent organisational and recordkeeping skills
• Reliable trustworthy and able to maintain strict confidentiality
• Enthusiastic and proactive with a commitment to developing services and positive working relationships
• Flexible approach to working hours including evenings and weekends and able to work across College sites when required

Desirable criteria

• Experience of working in an educational setting
• Educated to degree level
• Counselling Mentoring or Health & Social Care qualification
• Understanding of Keeping Children Safe in Education legislation including types of abuse neglect and associated risk factors
