Position Summary
The Kitchen Supervisor oversees the daily operation of a school kitchen to ensure high-quality meal service that
meets federal state and district requirements. This position supervises kitchen staff ensures adherence to
USDA meal patterns and food safety standards and manages production records inventory and service
timelines. The Kitchen Supervisor plays a key role in creating a positive dining experience for students and
ensures that meals are prepared safely efficiently and in alignment with District Child Nutrition guidelines.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Daily Kitchen Operations
Supervise and lead kitchen staff in preparing cooking and serving meals.
Ensure all menu items are prepared according to District recipes portion requirements and nutritional
guidelines.
Oversee daily meal service to ensure timely efficient and position student experiences.
Maintain accurate production records cash receipts temperature logs and meal counts.
Implement and monitor USDA meal pattern requirements during meal service.
Food Safety & Sanitation
Ensure strict compliance with food safety standards and HACCP procedures.
Conduct daily sanitation checks for food preparation areas equipment and serving lines.
Monitor proper storage labeling and rotation of food items.
Train staff on safe food handling allergen procedures and sanitation practices.
Staff Supervision & Training
Assign daily tasks and schedules for kitchen staff based on service needs.
Provide coaching mentorship and performance feedback to staff.
Assist with onboarding and training of new staff and substitutes.
Promote a positive teamwork-focused kitchen environment.
Inventory & Ordering
Monitor inventory levels and oversee ordering of food milk supplies and small equipment.
Conduct regular inventory checks to ensure adequate stock and minimize waste.
Coordinate with vendors and District staff regarding delivery issues or product substitutions.
Communication and Collaboration
Communicate effectively with building administrators Child Nutrition leadership and school staff.
Support special dietary accommodations in collaboration with the Assistant Child Nutrition Supervisor
and school nurse.
Serve as a resource for questions from students staff and parents regarding kitchen operations.
Other Duties
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED required
Experience in food service culinary work or school nutrition required; supervisory experience
preferred.
Knowledge of USDA child nutrition regulations strongly preferred.
Licenses/Certifications
SERV Safe certified or ability to pass exam within introductory period.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of food preparation sanitation procedures and meal pattern requirements.
Strong leadership communication and organization skills.
Ability to supervise staff and maintain a positive working environment.
Ability to follow recipes manage production schedules and maintain accurate records.
Skilled in multitasking and adapting to fast-paced service environments.
Proficiency with point-of-sale systems menu software and basic computer applications.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Physical Requirements
Frequent standing walking bending and reaching.
Lifting up to 40 lbs. regularly.
Ability to work in hot kitchens cold refrigerators/freezer and busy serving environments.

Frequent interaction with students staff and administrators.
