GENERAL DESCRIPTION (1-3 LINES DESCRIBING ROLE): |
The Assistive Technology Specialist promotes teaching and learning for all children with the assistance of specialized technology and adaptive equipment as defined in the IDEA 2004. The AT specialist will identify the effects that disabilities may have on a students ability to access and achieve in the general curriculum and to develop functional skills and independence and work with the team to implement AT to improve and/or maintain functional capabilities and provide access to materials and instruction. |
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters Degree in Assistive Technology Speech Language Pathology or a related field
- DESE licensure in instructional technology special education or related field
- Minimum of 3-years experience working as an Assistive Technology Specialist
- Knowledge of Assistive Technology special education process including referral timelines law and procedures and terminology.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience applying technology to improve educational outcomes for students.
- Knowledge of Assistive Technology special education process including referral timelines law and procedures and terminology.
- Facility with multiple technology platforms and interfaces.
- Ability to work independently within supervisory expectations while managing schedule effectively Strong interpersonal skills
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (NOT LIMITED TO):
- Assess students referred for Assistive Technology (AT) supports (both low and high tech) as part of a students team prepare written reports of assessments and attend Team meetings to present findings.
- Provide direct AT services to students and consultation to staff and families as specified in IEP service delivery grids Adapt curriculum for students utilizing AT resources and provide ongoing consultation and support to teams working directly with students.
- Responsible for locating resources and working with supervisors to order AT/AAC devices software and other supports as delineated in IEPs.
Provide training to staff students and parents in the use of recommended AT supports.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This work environment is school-based and in a business setting. May travel to multiple sites - transportation is required.
