SUMMARY:
The Community Mental Health Worker Summer Student addresses the mental health concerns and supports KOs mental health team in their day-to-day activities and initiatives. The worker helps expand access to culturally appropriate services such as land-based activities.
This is a full-time position (35 hours weekly) for a period of 8 weeks throughout July to August.
DUTIES
- Provides health and cultural support services to clients of the KO mental health program.
- Conducts community outreach to inform community members about available support services offered locally.
- Provides/assist with workshops and support groups alongside other mental health team members for clientele.
- Creates inventory of mental health supplies and makes note of any required program resources.
- Promotes harm reduction strategies.
- Follow Duty to Report requirements as necessary.
- Completes Data Entry of mental health program information.
- Maintains accurate and confidential client records.
- Travel frequently to KO First Nations communities often by small aircraft.
- Assists in response to Crisis Events.
- Other duties that may be deemed necessary by the Mental Health Team Lead or the KO Health Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Age Requirement: Youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period and can be up to 30 years old at the end of the employment period provided they were 30 at the start.
- Must be a Canadian citizen permanent resident or be granted refugee protection in Canada. As per Canada Summer Jobs funding guidelines.
- Must possess a valid Social Insurance Number.
- Ability to speak/write Cree Oji-Cree or Ojibway is a very strong asset along with a demonstrated competence in written and oral English.
- Knowledge of the culture and traditions of the First Nation communities Keewaytinook Okimakanak serves is an asset.
The hourly wage for this position is $17.60
