Job Summary

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To conduct appropriate therapy services to students with communication disorders and to promote a positive working relationship among and between staff by establishing a climate conducive to open communication and productivity so our students practice communication skills confidently and efficiently across the curriculum

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Bachelors Degree in Communication Disorder required

Texas State License in Speech Language Pathology Assistant required

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Communicate effectively (English/ Spanish verbal and written); utilize effective interpersonal skills; able to communicate in sign language preferred

Experience:

Externship in the clinical/educational setting in the areas of communication disorders preferred

Days:192

Daily Rate pay range:

Minimum: $272.11

Maximum: $379.65

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Keep informed about current legislation educational developments literature and research in special education by participating in state and national professional organizations; attend appropriate conferences staff development sessions; disseminate professional information and materials to the schools.

2. Provide quality and structured therapy services as recommended by the students Individual Education Plan both direct and/or consult and support IEP progress by maintaining therapy notes and collaborating with SLP on student progress.

3. Develop and maintain a daily schedule of services and organize time efficiently.

4. Maintain individual student records as require by local state and federal guidelines.

5. Maintain a professional relationship with administrator staff and support personnel.

6. Utilize and maintain assistive technology devices.

7. Assist in trainings for parents teachers and staff.

8. Plan curricular/instructional modification to ensure student classroom success and implement individual educational plans per recommendations from SLP.

9. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.

10. Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).
