The Position

The Nueva School seeks a full-time PreK-12 Music Program Coordinator. Well-qualified candidates will be creative energetic and passionate people with experience implementing and running music programs. This is a cross-divisional and cross-campus position that requires a deep love of a variety of musical genres and backgrounds strong communication and organizational skills excellent collaboration skills and an ability to work with students and families along their musical journeys.

A Day in the Life

Each day at Nueva is collaborative dynamic and grounded in meaningful relationships with students and colleagues. As the Music Program Coordinator youll meet with our music instructors regularly lead the Nueva String Ensemble in collaboration with its current director run the PK-12 Menuhin Program and teach two music electives in the middle school (a sixth grade Beatles Bands class and another class based on your interests and talents). You may also teach an elective in the upper school in future years and coach rock bands in the middle school.

The days schedule varies. Some days youll begin by reviewing the schedule of lessons and approving lesson time cards for the instrumental music instructors as part of managing ten private music instructors. Youll plan meetings field trips and concerts for the Menuhin students. During lunch or recess you might coach a rock band made up of middle school students. On Tuesday and Thursdays youll teach two electives in the middle school during the two afternoon blocks. On some evenings youll support the Evening Recital and Open Stage concerts for grade K-8.

In May our students go on trips. The Music Program Coordinator travels with the middle school for a week-long trip with the 5th 6th or 7th graders.

Responsibilities

Support of the Music Department

• Lead hiring for music teachers and music instructors
• Work with music faculty to document the scope and sequence of the PreK-12 program
• Oversee music department budget and work with division heads on expenditures
• Collaborate with division leadership and music faculty to arrange performances/assemblies
• Assist with setting up and taking down equipment for performances
• Work with music faculty to maintain and purchase key instruments and materials
• Collaborate with the drama faculty and fine arts faculty for culmination events
• Coordinate and create a master Music/Arts calendar that coordinates all musical drama and fine arts performances and events
• Coordinate with Admissions and Development for musical performances at admissions events
• Work closely with Operations to reserve spaces for events
• Coordinate and work with the Nueva Parent Association and parent volunteers to support the music program
• Develop further the Menuhin and Private Lesson Program at the upper school
• Coach chamber ensembles where appropriate including the Nueva String Ensemble
• Create and maintain a Nueva Music Program website that contains descriptions of the music program a music event calendar audio/video of performances and other student projects
• Record Nueva concerts and music events to be included on music program website
• Time permitting teach lessons to K-8 students when needed
• Teach two music electives in the middle school and (in the future) one music elective at the upper school (e.g. music theory composition improvisation)

Instrumental Music/Menuhin Program

• Lead advanced music studies program (Menuhin Program) and serve as liaison between the program and the schools divisions
• Manage instrumental lessons and ensemble programs including reviewing and approving music and submitting Menuhin lesson invoices
• Act as a liaison between music faculty and division leadership to ensure clear communication about schedules
• Review student reflections and support individual music instructors with student development plans
• Plan visits of guest speakers for the Program (twice yearly)
• Manage coordination of Menuhin field trips (twice yearly)
• Schedule and run evening recitals (monthly)
• Schedule and supervise monthly Menuhin lunches
• Schedule plan and run twice yearly community outreach performances
• Overview budget for the Menuhin program
• Plan and supervise 8th grade and upper school Menuhin recitals
• Provide piano accompaniment for students during concerts and recitals

Position Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Music Musicology or a closely related field
• Experience working with adolescents in an educational or program setting
• Demonstrated expertise and strong foundational knowledge in music and/or musicology
• Excellent communication skills including written verbal and active listening
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Effective problem-solving skills and sound judgment
• Experience managing programs projects or teams across a range of age groups

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree (Masters or higher) in Music Musicology or a related field
• Experience in an independent school or similar educational environment
• Experience developing or leading music programs ensembles or curriculum
• Demonstrated experience overseeing budgets billing processes or resource allocation
• Experience collaborating across departments or with diverse stakeholders
• Familiarity with a wide range of musical genres traditions and pedagogical approaches

Compensation and Benefits

The full-time salary range for this faculty position is $80800-$166000. The starting salary is based on but not limited to several factors including type and years of creditable experience education level and expertise.
