About the Role

The Classroom Assistant is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in teaching lessons to individuals or small groups of students with learning challenges work with individual students who are reluctant participants and supervise non-academic periods. This position currently reports to the Head of School.

This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students lives while being part of a dedicated mission-driven team committed to equity and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher in presenting lessons as requested by the teacher.
  • Deliver individual or small groups instruction to students who need extra assistance.
  • In conjunction with the teacher prepare materials exercises and assignments.
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings.
  • Attend special education instructional training seminars.
  • Participate in supervising students during class transitions and other non-academic times.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
  • Maintain commitment to child safety mandated reporting duty and professional boundaries
  • Provide classroom coverage during staff absences following teacherlesson plans and maintaining continuity of instruction
  • Help coordinate and co-facilitate the schools after-care program including student supervision homework support and planning enrichmentactivities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • B.A. in either education or related field.
  • Previous experience in child supervision necessary.
  • Experience with special education students with learning challenges preferred.

Additional Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and experience with children who have learning disabilities.
  • Ability to work on an inter-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills in order to communicate via email and to prepare
    assignments.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time for instruction and supervision.
  • Ability to work certain evenings for scheduled events such as Open House Achievement Night
    and staff training.
  • Valid CA driving license.
