Job Summary

Assistant Professor of Electrical EngineeringTenure-TrackTo support the continued growth of its engineering programs the School of Computing and Engineering in the College of Arts & Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor for the ABET-accredited B.S. in Electrical Engineering program at SHU. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and innovative educator-scholar committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching student mentoring and scholarly activity. The position emphasizes hands-on project-based learning and active engagement with students while contributing to curriculum development and continuous program improvement aligned with ABET accreditation standards. The anticipated start date for this position is January 2027 (Spring semester).Primary responsibilities include:Designing and teaching problem-based hands-on undergraduate courses in electrical engineering with an emphasis on robotics embedded systems and related areasTeaching higher level Electrical Engineering courses such as Power Systems and scholarly research appropriate for a teaching-focused institutionSupervising undergraduate student research and senior capstone design projectsCollaborating with industry partners and the SHU community on interdisciplinary projectsAdvising Electrical Engineering majorsSupporting continuous program improvement and ABET accreditation activitiesMinimum Qualifications:Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline completed by the start date of the appointmentExpertise in mechatronics robotics or closely related areasCommitment to a highly interactive student-centered learning environmentOpenness to innovative and hands-on pedagogical approachesDemonstrated potential for scholarly research and professional growthPreferred Qualifications:Experience working in a makerspace or laboratory-intensive teaching environmentExperience with active or project-based learning approachesExperience applying machine learning techniques within engineering contextsEvidence of an ongoing scholarly research agenda and publication activityExperience developing or maintaining industry collaborationsTo apply please submit the following materials:A cover letter describing your interest in the position and how your background aligns with the responsibilities and qualificationsA curriculum vitaeA statement of teaching philosophyA statement describing past and future research interestsContact information for three professional referencesReview of applications will begin May 2 2026 and will continue until the position is filled.
