Job Summary
FamilySearch is seeking candidates to assist patrons in the FamilySearch Library. We are seeking candidates to fill a full-time on-site position with a focus on family history records resources and strategies for either Asia (China Japan or other Asian countries) or Oceania (Polynesia Micronesia and Melanesia excluding Australia and New Zealand).
We need self-driven creative thinkers who can provide friendly timely service and quality research guidance for the International Reference Areas Asia or Oceania coverage.

Qualifications
- Ability to read genealogical records in relevant languages (Asia: simplified/traditional Chinese or Kanji; Oceania: e.g. Tongan Samoan Hawaiian Tahitian).
- Familiar with research methodologies for Asian or Polynesian countries and regions.
- Bachelors Degree in Family History (or related field) or equivalent work experience with specialization in Asia or Polynesia regions and countries.
- High computer skills especially with internet searching. Competence with Microsoft Office products (Word Excel and PowerPoint).
- Working knowledge of FamilySearch products (; Wiki; Family Tree Catalog etc.)
- Advanced genealogical research skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication teaching and presentation skills.
Not required but helpful:
- Ability to decipher and translate handwritten genealogical records in related Asian French Portuguese and Polynesian languages.
- Research experience in other areas or ethnic groups and immigration research to trace Asian or Polynesian ancestors to their hometown of origin.
Ability to speak Mandarin Cantonese Japanese or a Pacific Islander language.
Additional information:
- 40 hours per week on-site including some weekends evenings and holidays.
- As part of the interview process you will be asked to provide examples of your genealogical writing and research/documentation skills.
- Interview will include demonstrations of customer service; technology/presentation; and document identification/deciphering/translation.
