Reports To: Superintendent

Summary: The Director of Equity Belonging & Family Engagement leads the districts commitment to creating learning environments where every student family and staff member is genuinely seen welcomed and supported. This role provides strategic and operational leadership across equity and anti-racism initiatives social-emotional learning multilingual programming family engagement and student wellness ensuring that systemic decisions policies and practices reflect the districts values and serve historically marginalized communities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Serves as an educational leader and provides expertise and support for the design implementation and evaluation of equitable educational practices that align with the District Ends Vermont Multi-Tier System of Supports and Act 173.
    1. Serves on the Central Office Leadership Team to provide an equity and wellness lens on all district-wide initiatives ensuring that systemic decisions align with our commitments to equity and the districts strategic plan.
    2. Collaborate with district and building administrators to design learning environments curriculum policy and practices that are welcoming equitable and inclusive.
    3. Implement data driven systems to identify barriers to access and disproportionality in the District. Develop strategies frameworks and plans to address inequities. Collaborates with administrators coaches and consultants to implement preventative and responsive restorative practices for students.
    4. Work collaboratively with the district and building administrators in the development of Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and anti-racism professional development for all staff.
    5. Review and interpret state and federal policies including Act 173. Critically examine local state and federal policies and regulations for bias against the most marginalized. Create update and periodically review a District Racial Equity Policy and Family Engagement Policy.
    6. Listens collaborates and develops systems-change ideas that promote fair and equitable practices for all students and creates opportunities for marginalized and/or students negatively impacted by current practice. Works to include all voices; is visible in the school and wider community and communicates widely.
    7. Builds a strong community coalition to address equity across the school district. Develop structures and procedures for stakeholder participation and decision making with particular emphasis on historically and presently marginalized groups. Supports the superintendent with providing updates and celebrating differences. Collaborate with the leadership team to collect and analyze student and family perception data.
    8. Collaborates with the Senior Director of Human Resources and building Administrators to develop strategies and procedures for recruiting retaining and supporting staff of color and other under represented groups.
  2. Provides District leadership and assists the superintendent in the development of an equitable safe and healthy learning environment for all learners.
    1. In collaboration with administrators and leadership teams design and implement an equitable trauma-informed anti-racist and inclusive behavior system with the inclusion of a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) model for the district.
    2. Works collaboratively with the district and building administrators in the development of SEL professional learning for all staff. Ensures that professional learning is centered on trauma informed social emotional learning equity access and anti-racism. Designs professional learning that offers tangible tools for culturally responsive teaching and allows for practice ongoing reflection and support for growth that is aligned with Common Core State Standards Universal Design for Learning and Vermont Multi-Tier System of Supports.
  3. Develop and oversee programs in support of student wellness mindfulness restorative practice and restorative justice within the District.
  4. Lead the strategic design and daily operations of the districts centralized enrollment and orientation hub by ensuring a seamless inclusive and culturally responsive entry point for all new families with a focus on removing barriers for marginalized and multilingual populations.
  5. Lead a partnership between district staff and family stakeholders to identify and remove barriers to inclusion through the District Belonging Committee.
  6. Coordinate alignment/communication of school/district family engagement events (e.g. conferences open houses) to create clear and accessible standards for all major school-to-home touchpoints ensure consistency and reduce logistical conflicts.
  7. Pursue write and manage grants related to equity belonging safety/health DEI anti-racism and SEL in collaboration with the Districts Grant Manager.
  8. Manages PK-12 multilingual programming including family engagement World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) testing communication translation interpretation and all other facets of multilingual programming and curriculum. Consults with the EDLSSS to ensure that programming and Title III investments are aligned with District educational goals including MTSS.
  9. Supports building administrators with and monitors district Hazing Harassment and Bullying (HHB) complaints and serves as Title IX coordinator.
  10. Creates and maintains data reports for tracking instructional practices curriculum gains and other identified data points useful in advancing the needs of all students. Reports progress periodically.
  11. Maintains professional growth and knowledge of relevant research and current best educational practices via participation in state-wide professional organizations advanced study site visits conference attendance workshops and/or other means. Keeps staff apprised of the same.
  12. Assists administration in the budgeting process to ensure support of district equity and belonging goals.
  13. Communicates with board members through the superintendent via board updates monitoring reports and other means as directed.
  14. Completes required local state and national reports on matters related to duties outlined in this job description.
  15. Accepts other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with applicable laws and regulations as well as the Districts policies and procedures. Supervises the work of assigned personnel in collaboration with the building Administrators. Regular attendance in accordance with the established work schedule is required.

Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: Bachelors Degree in related subject area Masters Degree preferred. Five or more years of experience in teaching/education administration and leading a comprehensive program is expected.

Licenses and/or Certificates: Current or eligible for a Vermont Educators License with an Administrator endorsement. Experienced with diversity equity inclusion anti-racism program design/leadership educational model development and execution mindfulness trauma-informed and restorative practice leadership.

Language Skills: Ability to read analyze and interpret information from professional journals legal documents governmental regulations and assessment data. Ability to write reports correspondence and procedures. Ability to respond to inquiries or concerns from students parents co-workers and community members. The ability to effectively present information to administrators public groups community and school Board is preferable.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as basic algebra probability and statistical inference. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Skills: Ability to anticipate identify and/or define problems and create appropriate solutions. Delegates appropriate responsibilities to assigned staff.

Other Skills and Abilities: Proficient in the use of a personal computer; presentation word processing and spreadsheet experience. Effective organization and planning skills and the demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing and to maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board policies as it relates to the job responsibilities. Demonstrated ongoing commitment to workplace diversity sustainability and delivering exceptional customer service.
