Under the general supervision from the Director of Kids Summer Camps and the Technical Assistant (TA) Coordinator the seasonal Technical Assistant (TA) will be responsible for supervising and advising campers in the production of digital film shoots by providing hands-on assistance with the safe operation of technical equipment assisting in classroom needs for film acting photography and editing and other day-to-day responsibilities to ensure the successful operation of the NYC Kids Summer Camp.
New York Film Academys Kids Summer Camps provide intensive programs in filmmaking acting screenwriting musical theatre documentary and photography for campers of ages 10 to 13 years old. TAs are role model figures for our energetic artistic camper body and must commit to helping maintain an educational safe and fun environment for the campers.
Effective Date: Seasonal Part Time from 06/22/2026 08/14/2026
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise camper production crews on location shoots and offer technical assistance to campers to ensure their proper and safe use of equipment
Assist faculty during classes and provide hands-on assistance in a classroom setting
Facilitate a safe and effective shooting environment at all times.
Advise campers on technical and creative matters including writing directing lighting shooting and editing.
Assist with providing a fun and engaged atmosphere for campers to learn
Work as additional film crew during in-class production workshops and camper film shoots. (Crew Positions: DP AC Sound Mixer Boom Operator Grip Gaffer AD Producer Editor Driver D.I.T Actor)
Label and deliver media
Support Equipment Room and Edit Lab Staff
Maintain various logistics necessary to ensure the smooth running of production including airport pick-ups orientation in-class screenings and accompanying campers to and from location
Shooting scenes in acting classes
Assist with classroom and general set-up before the program starts.
Support Administrative staff with facilities and operations needs
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES:
Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds including campers faculty and staff.
A strong commitment to and enthusiasm for engaging with young artists and mentoring their artistic ambitions and talents
Ability to work hard responds to emergencies and always maintains the safety and educational environment for the campers
Film equipment including but not limited to 5D Mark II HMC 150 shotgun mics tripods onboard shock mounts c-stands boom poles etc
A solid grasp of basic light set-up including 3-point lighting basic power distribution light control with gels etc
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work well in a team atmosphere.
Perform basic math
Understand written procedures write routine documents and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ethical / Honest - evidence of the practice of high-level confidentiality.
Service and Action oriented does what it takes to meet the expectations of customers
Collaborative enlists information from all sources to ensure the best solution to issue
Experience providing technical support on film shoots and/or art events required
Experience at a summer camp environment or with campers ages 10-13 is preferred
Experience working in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment with attention to detail
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Suite Word Outlook Excel PowerPoint
