Job Summary

Job Title: Safety Officer

Overview
Our client in the mining industry is looking for a qualified and experienced Safety Officer to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with occupational health and safety regulations across mining operations promoting a strong safety culture and minimizing workplace risks. This role plays a critical part in maintaining a safe working environment for all employees and contractors on site.

Job Purpose
The Safety Officer will oversee the implementation and enforcement of health and safety standards ensuring that all operations are conducted in line with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement monitor and enforce health and safety policies procedures and standards across the site

  • Conduct regular inspections audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance

  • Investigate incidents accidents and near misses; compile detailed reports and recommend corrective actions

  • Ensure compliance with relevant mining regulations and international safety standards

  • Facilitate safety training sessions toolbox talks and awareness programs for staff and contractors

  • Monitor the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforce adherence to safety protocols

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records reports and documentation

  • Collaborate with operational teams to integrate safety into daily activities

  • Participate in emergency response planning and conduct drills as required

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety Environmental Health or a related field

  • Minimum of 3 5 years experience in a mining environment (essential)

  • Strong knowledge of mining safety regulations and industry best practices

  • Health & Safety certification (e.g. NEBOSH or equivalent is an added advantage)

  • Proven experience in incident investigation and risk assessment

  • Strong communication reporting and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a remote site environment
